Have you tried reversing a few metres to release difflock

Sometimes you need to wheelspin it in reverse (or I prefer to just pull up onto a grass verge and spin it a bit, sometimes just "rubbing" the verge when travelling is enough) to get it out... my 110 with a god-knows-how-many-miles t/box is like this.

Ok minty from the landrover experience south west told me this and it works Everytime in seconds
Stop - take it out off diff lock and into normal - put handbreak on - put it into reverse - let clutch up till it bites slowly and it try's to move back - and hay presto out of diff lock Best thing ever It's good to be back from the dark side DC110 -2012 Black with black hood and black x-tech FFRR 4.2 vogue Renault traffic auto PT crusier convertible Laika x700 Motorhome |

It may also be worthwhile checking the diff lock switch and wiring loom. It may that the diff is disengaging as normal but the switch is faulty. Easy option is to do a open / closed circuit check with a DMM. At least you will be able to discount the switch as the issue

I don't believe the issue is the diff lock….. I have had a lot of slack in the drive train and a lot of bits have been changed. I'm not sure wether its just me thinking the slack is worse than normal, or it may just be normal and I'm expecting too much from a defender…. I have got a slight whine and some clunking but not sure if it is normal or a issue, causing all of these symptoms Im located in Basildon Thanks Ian 2008 TDCI 110 XS 1985 90 300tdi. Have you tried one of the local Land Rover specialists?
Dan Smith at DS Automotive (just off Progress Rd, Eastwood) or Essex 4x4 in Wickford? I've not used either for anything on my Puma as I've not had it long, but have used both for my Disco and have been impressed with both. |

I had a lot of slack in the drive train from new. Trouble is I took it to the local stealership, who didn't do a lot. I asked for a new rear diff at 5ooo miles but they wouldn't have any of it. Diffs shouldn't burn you when you touch them was my question. They did change it at 10,000 miles after a lot of pushing.
After a new front diff, it drives like new, or in my case better than new. Oh and a new UJ as well. So my advice is to keep clear of stealerships unless you need a warrantee claim. Merlin |
