Water in through A pillar
We recently had a Genuine Parts snorkel fitted. It attaches to the A-pillar in the usual way via two screws. This morning i went out to the 110 and found the rubber footwell mat on the driver's side with rather a lot of water on it. We had big rain storms here last night and lots of wind.

No water on the passenger side (downhill with the camber of the road). I found there to be a juicy drop on the end of the plastic thing that protects wires etc on the inside of the A-pillar and assume now that the mechanic who fitted the RAI didn't seal the holes and screws. Either at all, or enough.

I plan to loosen the screws off at the weekend and inject some clear silicone from the outside. Does anyone have a better idea or better material i should use? What kind of sealant should i use? Frankly i cannot be bothered with taking it back to the dealers for them to do the job they should have done in the first place. I thought at the time about reminding them to use plenty of sealant in that particular place.

Yes a very good dollop of silicon will do the job get a good one tho you get what you pay for
the cheep silicon is Censored Thumbs Up NEVER TAKE LIFE SERIOUSLY. NOBODY GETS OUT ALIVE ANYWAY

You could put an o ring between the snorckle mount and the a post,don't over tighten though. 2.4 90 XS

Use good quality clear silicone - Dow corning 785 is the best.

Strange

ive fitted 3 snorkels - not a new one or one on a new 90 and ive not put any sealant on 2 of them. the 3rd i did and waxoyl but ive not even heard of this, so the question:
a) was the install correct?
b) are you sure its coming in there? Mike

Thanks for the tips guys.

mse - I'm certain it's coming in there. We've had footwell leaks before from the bulkhead that dripped small puddles on the mats, but this was different. A totally different amount of water on the mat. I lifted it out and poured the water onto the tarmac. What leads me to my diagnosis is:

1. The plastic duct that holds wires on the inside of the driver's side A-pillar had a whopping drip hanging off the end of it (i'm certain it winked at me);

2. There was a splash on the end of the dash where the water would have dripped down from the duct i mentioned above and onto the mat;

3. I don't trust my dealers not to have drilled a hole too big for the job, for example.It's the kind of job i can imagine they'd give to the apprentice or new boy.

It's booked in Saturday week for it to be sorted between 9 - 1. I had an apology within 1 minute of calling - rare as hens' teeth!

I agree no massive damage per se, but it's still unacceptable for errors like this to happen in my book. British Leyland, i know Rolling Eyes

There was probably half a cup of water on the floor.

More damage to my patience really and to the fact that i'll have to waste time next saturday.

When i fitted my rai i put a piece of rubber between the screen and the bracket so it would compress and make it water tight. Also, i thought it would do less dammage to the screen if i bashed the rai on something. 130 crew cab

Good thinking. I'm going to suggest this to the mechanics.

In my mind's eye they all walk around the workshop with crossed eyes, groaning from the effects of their lobotomies.

The LR mechanic probably used it to pick out a piece of his breakfast stuck between his teeth and then threw it away.

They couldn't organise a proverbial in a brewery, that lot!
