I've had a halfords professional set for about 10 years, excellent quality, they will replace anything you break (reasonably)
I usually keep the set in the back of the 110 as part of my 'just in case' kit. Keith |

I've had my 150 piece set going on 15 years now - worth every penny. And you don't need to keep the receipt for them to honour the warranty - they print them on thermal paper so it will fad after a couple of years anyway. 2013 Aintree Green 110 Station Wagon SX

This is half price until midnight tonight, is it a better buy just for the toolbox than the 5 drawer red chest halfords do for 75 quid? Then I can put the new pro socket set in this

Treated myself to one of those professional sets last Christmas in the sale. My only niggle is that the smallest ratchet keeps locking up on me- can't move the ratchet direction lever but didn't want to undo it ( two small screws) as I'm anticipating springs flying everywhere. Reading the thread looks like I can get a replacement ( no idea where my receipt is )

That is a good price, but if they drop to £100, wow, even better.
There was a thread a while back about the quality of Halfords Pro. I am still using my set after many years of abuse. The 1/2 inch ratchet is still going strong but the other 2 broke a long time ago. The are not the best ratchets, but the spanners and sockets are equally as good (if not better) than Snap-Off (term we used to use in the Paddock as a lot of racers didn't rate them). Looking at their socket sets it appears they have changed the contents over the past couple of years (i.e., there is less in them now). They still do the £99 150 piece one, which IMHO is better than the one the OP links too, but even that is missing several spanners and sockets that were included a couple of years back at the same price. The reason I prefer that in is that it has proper ring spanners and separate ratchet spanners. A good strong ring spanner is sometimes a necessity (think LR Swivel removal). A ratchet ring would not take it and the ratchet mechanisms are specifically excluded from the warranty.

Hello, bought one of these about eight months ago. I think they are manufactured for Halfords by Sealey. Quality is excellent and is backed by their lifetime guarantee (keep your receipt mine is under the box in the cabinet). Sockets are six point so no rounded over nuts or bolts. At this price it is a genuine bargain and the quality far exceeds similar priced tools from the Far East. You will not be disappointed if you buy it.
Cheers Johnnyb0. |
