I agree. 140k miles on a regularly serviced TD5 is nothing. Mine (a 2002 110 csw) has just turned 147k miles and has done Gibraltar and back this year as well as being my daily driver. She (Miffy) gets serviced every 6k miles or so and is a delight to drive.
Only problems I have had engine-wise are the ususal; Fuel regulator, belt tensioner pulley, injector seals, fuel heater seals, oh and a broken exhaust manifold stud which completely my fault. I had just had a remap and was enjoying it far too much... TD5s really are not that difficult to maintain yourself and how many people have actually had troubles with the electrics?? I have not... As always with Defenders, check out the chassis, bulkhead, door bottoms, gearboxes and engine thoroughly... Oh and do not believe a word the garage man says. Take your time, give it a darned good poke and a prod, take a torch with you. If he has nothing to hide he'll be fine with you crawling over and under it. Long live TD5 Defenders... EDIT: I forgot to say, she is still on her original clutch too... |

Thanks guys. I've picked it up and very happy with it. Only i already have a question! When i lock the car with the fob the horn honks twice, but it does lock. Also the red alarm light in the dash is doesnt flash when its locked it is just constantly illuminated. All doors/bonnet are firmly closed - any thoughts?

Horn sounding when locking is normaly an indication that a door/bonnet is not closed !
Is the alarm setting properly ? try locking the car on the remote and leaving a window open leave for a short while and stick your arm through the open window and see if it set the alarm off. 2005 Td5 90 XS Steve |

Two honks = door open
Make sure bonnet switch is ok or disconnect for retry of alarm set. If not that check all door switches operate interior light ok Andy |

Red light solid = driver door open.
so check the switch there at the driver door. it's prolly shorted. signal to ground = open door. From the land of the most expensive land rover defenders on planet earth. At 125k for a XS 110 csw and you get to own it only for 10yrs! Please find me a good reason to stay on this island. |

My 2002 90 has done 136k, needed a new cylinder head (diesel in sump) at 120K. Higher mileage would not put me off at all if it's had regular servicing. Was in a Skoda Taxi with 465k on its original engine on Friday.
