Either the mechanics are incompetent or there is something more amiss, I would ask for a new front axle to garantee ruling out future problems, especially as your warranty must be up about now. DEFENDER 90 TDCI XS,
I hope everyone is well and your land rovers make you happy |

I'm on extended warranty now so will have to do my best with them... And upon looking through the cars earlier records the drivers side front axel has been plagued with problems

i, too have had 3 or 4 swivel seal replacements under warranty. the last time they did the swivel seal they also did a hub seal replacement and that has cleared the problem so far.
(when you see a £420 bill going to land rover for the repair i wouldn't want to face that bill repeatedly ) mine have all been nearside leaks, but they did no the drivers side once at the same time, even though i never saw an issue with it |

a follow up to this, about a month ago the car went in for warranty work, apparently it had the full unit replaced - a warranty engineer was sent out to approve it,
but after having a look under the car today, its leaking out grease yet again.... i did request the paperwork for what had been done but they told me it would take a week or 2 as the paint shop paperwork would take some time, never got it... car's going in for a 48k service on the 13th, wondering what my options are regarding this? been trying to call them for a hour now today... |

Was it just the seal they replaced?
I would have thought they would have replaced the scraper along with the ball. I had a similar problem with a new Disco, 3 seals replaced until I suggested that they take a good look at the scraper and ball, It turned out that the scraper had a crease in the outer edge and the ball had a matching mark on the Teflon coating. Don't make old people mad. We don't like being old in the first place, so it doesn't take much to us off. Richard |

i was under the understanding it was the whole ball joint linkage, but after a hour of calling and then being told i will get called back later today (which i never did) i still don't know if they actually did.
