Well,
I think is a problem around the world. In Chile we have only one dealer, and really is very bad and expensive Eduardo MY 2007 110 SW PUMA 2.4: Big Fog of 64' MY 1994 Jayco 1207 Folding camper: "El Tremendo" Click image to enlarge |

Hi guys. I'm new here, so "Hello!"
I wanted to ask about any opinions on my local dealer, Hartwell Land Rover, Oxford, where I've just bought my new (well 3 months old) Defender 90 XS. Had couple of Disco's before (not from main dealer), but love my Defender. Had a few difficulties with the sales team (not ringing me about certain things throughout process, etc), aswell as the usual general 'robbing' nature of main stealers with p/x values. There were other 'things' that left me a little disappointed with the buying process from them, which I won't bore you with here, but a letter is on its way to the dealer principal. My thing is, should I stick with them (or give them a chance) when it comes to servicing, etc, my 90, or look at another dealer? Anyone any experience with them? I dont really know who else I could use....this thread isnt the first time I've heard good things about TH Whites, but Wooton basset isn't 5 mins away! Anyway, if anyone could give advice, I'd certainly appreciate it! thank you Mark 2011 110 XS DC Stornoway Grey |

Muddy,
Welcome to the site. I used to be at Brize Norton for 7 years. I did most of my purchasing, sevicing etc. here: http://www.james-french.co.uk/ They are classed as independant but are authorised to carry out servicings. They do not invalidate your warranty. I can personally very highly recommended them, and me now being not far from Wootton Bassett I bought my Defender from and still use TH Whites for warranty work, but still return to James French for servicing. They may also carry out minor warranty work if your car is in for servicing. Steve in the workshop is amiable and extremely understanding and helpful. Their labour cost is also significantly lower than Land Rover dealerships. Just pop in to check them out if you're passing Standlake you'll be impressed and will have no regrets about standard of service.. If you go through life with your head in the sand....all people will see is an ar5e!! Treat every day as if it is your last....one day you will be right!! |

Hi K9F,
thanks for the welcome.... I had experience of James French when I bought my V8 Disco from them (back in 1997/8, if I remember rightly). Wasnt the best experience back then (dont think he'd long set up, few vehicles & a large shed), but I've heard different things about them more recently though, esp comments about their setup over there now, so maybe worth a drop in to have a chat about it. Always good to hear about positive experiences, though, thanks very much. Mark 2011 110 XS DC Stornoway Grey |
