It is often the grease around the mechanism getting very very thick due to the cold, not it freezing. A good clean with WD40 then regrease with thin grease works well.

Word of caution....
I've had this but it didn't freeze until I started then engin and then shut the doors to remove the snow and then got locked out with the engine running ![]() This a problem that all vehicles can suffer from! Russell 2011MY 110 XS USW Black |

BigRuss, I'm guessing you locked yours after you got out with the engine running? 2007 (57) Defender 90 (Sold)
Looking for another to replace it. The road less travelled.... is a muddy one! |

I think what Big Russ is saying is that his defender locked its self whilst the engine was running and he was not in it. Then causing the issue of keys inside locked car whilst engine running. Ok if your near the spares, but if not...............

I used "rangoon" oil in the locks and silicone spray on the rubbers and silicone spray on the uppy/downy door buttons
