Frozen central locking
Has anyone else experienced the problem of the central locking mechanism being frozen? Upon trying to open the car with the fob all the doors would unlock except the drivers door. The mechanism sounded like is was trying to unlock but wouldn't. I also trying to unlock it from the inside but didn't want to force it. Once at work the mechanism had sufficiently thawed and I was able to unlock from the inside. Does anyone know which part is likely to be frozen?

On a note for others I can confirm it's not particularly easy to climb into the drivers seat through the passenger side, over the cubby box and without kicking the CB or getting snow everywhere! Whistle 2007 (57) Defender 90 (Sold)
Looking for another to replace it.

It is often the grease around the mechanism getting very very thick due to the cold, not it freezing. A good clean with WD40 then regrease with thin grease works well.

Word of caution....

I've had this but it didn't freeze until I started then engin and then shut the doors to remove the snow and then got locked out with the engine running Embarassed

This a problem that all vehicles can suffer from! Russell

BigRuss, I'm guessing you locked yours after you got out with the engine running? 2007 (57) Defender 90 (Sold)

I think what Big Russ is saying is that his defender locked its self whilst the engine was running and he was not in it. Then causing the issue of keys inside locked car whilst engine running. Ok if your near the spares, but if not...............

I used "rangoon" oil in the locks and silicone spray on the rubbers and silicone spray on the uppy/downy door buttons Thumbs Up
