For sealing, I suggest Sikaflex. I've used it on my Defender to seal many areas of leaks, great stuff...

i have a cunning plan to seal some holes in the rear tub of my 110 where I've removed the old seat belt mounts in a similar fashion, so I think it sounds ok. In your case, I'd try and treat the corrosion as best you can first, but once sealed in with Sikaflex or similar it shouldn't get any worse. I'd plate and seal from the outside to prevent any further exposure to water and then coat the seat mounting bolts with Duralac to prevent further bi-metallic corrosion. Thanks for the input. I'll use some sikaflex as a sealant/adhesive.
I reckon on getting some new mounting bolts; I'm not optimistic that the old ones will be easy to remove! |
