Gearbox pulling into second gear from first
Hi there,

I've grown up with Land Rovers but recently purchased my first, a 2007 90HT 2.4 PUMA, 6 months ago. So far so good and it's performed brilliantly.

However the gearbox has recently starting behaving a little strangly (I'm aware that it is a bit agricultural!). Specifically it seems to 'pull' itself into gear when I go from first into second, despite having the clutch fully depressed. It doesn't seem to make any difference if the engine/gearbox is cold or warm. All the other gear changes are fine.

Has anyone else experienced this? Is it normal or something that I should be concerned about?

Thanks in advance,

Tom

not sure if the ford boxes run undercut gears but most modern boxes do ... the idea is the small synco teeth on each gear (the ones that lock in main gear to syncro hub not the main teeth) are cut narrower at back of tooth this helps hold the gears lock together and not jump out of gear .. if your a bit quick lifting off clutch then it can feel like the gear/ lever is being pulled slightly ..
undercutting does 3 things makes gear change smoother feel as they done have to run heavy springs in syncro hubs to hold gears together.
and less likely to jump out of gear when syncro teeth get bit worn
and race boxes have much more undercut gears for panic quick changes or clutchless gear changes

try slowing down coming off clutch pedal when changing gear see if that helps ( not slowing car down you coming off pedal slower)
