We are on our 3rd non-Outback Legacy. An 02 2.0Gl which we have had since 6 months old. They are excellent! Unstoppable on ice. Only deep mud and snow defeats them because off roaders they are not. 1750kg towing weight. and on a manual you get a low range. Only Outbacks have a CDL though. Insurance and parts are pricey. Fuel consumption and road tax are too. The flat 4 or 6 is very endearing. Performance is a hoot. years ago on Top gear Richards Burns concluded that an ordinary Legacy/Impreza/Forrester was about 90% of the fun of the WRC.

Ours is slightly tatty now but like all LR products, it wears it well!
