extra battery for security or alarm
what would be your views on fitting extra battery in where fuse box (under seat on a tdci) (if there is room) something like a small sealed race battery or motorcycle size battery with the idea that if cables are cut to stop alarm etc .. connected straight to fuse box via say 20a fuse so enough to run everything but not start on.
connected all the time so would charge from main system. and take over if cables cut .
even have small alarm on main battery cable (run cables along main cable both run in conduit so they cut both main and trigger wires) so if cut that goes off first to deter ----- from carrying on and causing damage from say bonnet lift to steal ..
Or another idea
datatool (for motorbike ) do small simply fit alarm that's got a wire you earth (meant for helmet protection ) if its cut alarm goes off .. wire could be run along main earth lead from battery ( taped along length of earth lead )

yes only thing cutting main feed does not set off alarm then .. so they still might do damage opening bonnet or what ever .. simply alarm to protect cable may stop this as it would go off instant and they got motion sensor so if they tried towing away

just a thought do people run extra earth in thick or thin cable ..if thick its got to be as heavy gauge as standard and earth to inside box and engine (otherwise if you did not know main wire had been cut and tried to start defender you have all load from starter running through body or even if they tried to start it .. not a good idea
if its thin wire then must be fused as same if you didn't know wire cut trying to start starter load would light cable up .. not a good idea

simply fit alarm has its own siren built in and small enough to mount hidden away

you say about extra earth.. what about cutting positive cable still runs out of battery box side underneath
sure the positive has 2 wires one to fuse box underseat and one to starter cutting close to box (one cut to both cables) as sure they come out of same hole ( not same hole as earth ) in battery box. or even if fuse box and main starter wire come out of different holes still don't take long to cut both
still all dead and no alarm and bonnet gone ( unless bbus sounder fitted but not all have )

United Kingdom 2008 Defender 110 Puma 2.4 XS CSW Bonatti Grey
I brought from Ebay a small sounder with built in battery that activates if the supply to it is lost, hidden in the body work and makes a lot of noise.

Can be switched off with a built in key when working on the Landy or going in for work. 2008 Defender 110 XS CSW

I've been thinking about this and I'll have a length of thinnish wire + inline fuse in stock on delivery day before working out what to do longer term. My logic is that it'll probably be possible to fit this quickly without needing to worry too much about sourcing different battery clamps and the such like.
