Hi there!!!
Usually I dont post here but... A friend of mine with a TD5 has a weird problem with the gearbox. The problem started with a buzzing that were more strong in the 1st, 2nd and 5th gears. Thinking in the fluid that was change not long ago, he check the levels but all appears normal. Finally the gearbox were dead and look like something has been loose inside. He can move the gearstick to each gear and the clutch appears to work OK, but the car continue in neutral position. They also check the transfer but its working fine. He comment me that the gearbox oil appear to be burned and some oil were spill off from the system. According to the dealer, the problem is not common and require to replace all the gearbox. Anybody with a similar experience? Possible causes and solutions? Thanks Grockle,
Looks something like that. The main shaft or maybe the secondary one. But, replace all the gearbox sound a little bit too much Cheers Eduardo MY 2007 110 SW PUMA 2.4: Big Fog of 64' MY 1994 Jayco 1207 Folding camper: "El Tremendo" Click image to enlarge |

I had the input shaft sheared right at the front off the gearbox. First I lost 4th gear and 20 km later I lost all gears. This was with my Camel discovery. Only 45000 km out off that box. OK it was the original gearbox.
I replaced the whole gearbox with a reconditioned unit. The quote was about the same then let my gearbox being rebuild and it was directely available. Hi Eduardo, are you able to select the gears OK or is the stick moving but it's not connected to anything ? if so the grub screw which holds the yolk (FTC5120) to the selector rail may have come loose and will just need tightening. if you need a reoplacement we have rebuilt and new in stock which we can supply outright so you don't have to send the old unit back, www.ashcroft-transmissions.co.uk Dave |
