Fascinating stuff. That's not an OTAL, though - it's an APGP! Darren 110 USW BUILD THREAD - EXPEDITION TRAILER - 200tdi 90 BUILD THREAD - SANKEY TRAILER - IG@landroveranorak "You came in that thing? You're braver than I thought!" - Princess Leia |

Thank you, it is of course an APGP not an OTAL.
As far as I know only 23 APGPs were built, one (rumoured to be the only one still with flotation bags) is in the Dunsfold collection. I wonder how many others have survived. Even rarer than the APGP was the unique SMOMOT, but I don't think that survived. |

There are quite a lot that are rarer than the APGP, although few that are as appealing. Who wouldn't like a Land Rover that floats?
![]() The SMOMOT was scrapped unfortunately, although the similar 'Buttercup' survives at Gaydon. The one and only OTAL is in the Dunsfold Collection and is a runner, but it'll never float again as the bouyancy foam within the bodywork has deteriorated. Heh, heh, I know what you mean.
For all those wondering what the hell we're talking about, this is the OTAL (One Ton Amphibious LandRover): ![]() And the APGP (Air Portable General Purpose): ![]() The SMOMOT (Single Man, One Machine, One Team) based on a prototype two ton truck: ![]() And 'Buttercup' - another two tonne truck prototype that was put to use as a factory hack and grass cutter before finally being retired to Gaydon: ![]() It's a quiet day whilst I wait for a delivery from Wickes ![]() 110 USW BUILD THREAD - EXPEDITION TRAILER - 200tdi 90 BUILD THREAD - SANKEY TRAILER - IG@landroveranorak "You came in that thing? I know a very eccentric Frenchman who has two of them, and was looking to buy a third! only one of his could be used on water though. Euro-Leafing to infinity and beyond..... |

Great pics, LRA, thanks for posting!
I always thought that the APGP was an especially good-looking vehicle, the proportions were spot on. |

Perentie, I can do - taken at Dunsfold earlier this year:
![]() Click image to enlarge Centaur has been pinched from elsewhere, as I can't find my own pics of one ![]() ![]() Click image to enlarge ![]() There are several versions of Centaur: the original was based on a Stage 1 V8 whilst later ones were built around a V8 110. The APGP on the Land Rover stand was almost certainly the Dunsfold one, as they regularly borrow vehicles from the collection. Admin note: this post has had its images recovered from a money grabbing photo hosting site and reinstated ![]() 110 USW BUILD THREAD - EXPEDITION TRAILER - 200tdi 90 BUILD THREAD - SANKEY TRAILER - IG@landroveranorak "You came in that thing?
