Could this be because winter diesel is different from summerdiesel to prevent waxing off the diesel? I believe here in The Netherlands the petrolstations get the winterdiesel from somewhere in October so far enough before the winterseason so that even when you don't drive that much you have already winterdiesel in your car before it gets cold. I've heard of winter diesel somewhere before, might have been on here. I'll just see how it goes when the snow dissapears... it'll be a sad time when it does, mind W |

They do put an additive in the fuel to stop waxing above -15 but they put that in reasonably early
Maybe its the cold starts - the computer increases fueling? Mike |

mines dropped to 27/27 from 30/31 i put it down to increased fueling for the cold weather, longer warmup time and the fact i am leaving it idling to try and get some heat into it prior to going out. Cheers

My fault for being heavily right footed! Dropped the kids off at Burnham On Mud on my way back to Wiltshire after the Christmas Holidays, involved a longish haul on the M5 and M4. Usual economy sits at about 27-29mpg but was astounded that it dropped to about 22. Served me right I suppose. Back up to about 26-28 now in 'Driving Miss Daisy Mode!' If you go through life with your head in the sand....all people will see is an ar5e!!

It's funny you've brought up this subject because i was thinking yesterday, how suprised i was at getting the same mileage out of a tank as i was before the snow came. I've pulled out loads of cars and a couple of trucks and even been stuck once myself. I get 550 km for about 65 litres of french supermarket diesel.

I've just done some number crunching and you appear to be getting about 23-24 miles per gallon. By my reckoning if you're saying that is normal it's still 4-5 miles per gallon (about 1.75km per litre) lower than it should be. Got a little too much time on my hands today and should get out more! Know that already but it is damn cold out there! If you go through life with your head in the sand....all people will see is an ar5e!! Yes, that's about right for the way i drive(i'm a bit impatient)and it is a 130. Most of my journeys are local back roads and i take the kids to school every day which is only 3km each way so does not warm up properly and i don't do any motorway miles at all.
My point is that i expected to get even less km because of all the low range driving and messing around but it's stayed the same which is fine by me. 130 crew cab 98 V8 Disco |

Mine was up around 29 mpg in the summer. Had the tune patch in October and have been getting 28 ish, and 27ish in the snow - again, I put it down to cold starts, short journeys at lower speeds due to the snow, and load on the alternator (heated screens, seats, lights, although I don't imagine they make much difference given the torque the engine produces). I know my old Series 1 was around 10% less economical in the winter...but that only developed 110 ft/lb (when new) and was driving a good old fashioned dynamo 1953 80

Hallo to all from sunny SA. The winter looks like it is a terrible one from what i can tell on the tv news.
I had the tune patch done and my consumption dropped from 10km/l to between 8.2 to 9km/l. I mentioned this to the dealer and he said he will pass my consern onto LR UK. No feed back as yet. Puma 110 sw White No extras yet. |

Just worked out on my last tank I was only getting 21-22mpg!

I have finaly pulled my finger out of my @**e and worked out my mileage for the past 6 months and I can confirm that the winter fuel hasn't made a slightest bit of difference- if anything the slower driving through the snow has bumped it up a MPG or two. I drive most of my milage on either big A roads or motorway so average between 20-26mpg per fill up on sunny days and averaging 22-25mpg on these wintery days.

Same here. Around 23-25 all year. I've got a snorkel and do a lot of short journeys (barely gets warm). When I do motorway runs I get closer to 27. Towing I lose a couple of mpg. One that started out as a 2.4 TDCi 110 XS
