Hi Mike
following on from this thread http://www.defender2.net/forum/topic23803.html I'm interested to understand how the rear cross member corrosion is deemed to be paintwork rather than corrosion. If JLR had bothered to paint it with non-porous paint I might understand, but the paint thickness and quality are so poor that the spray of corroded material from the poorly finished mud flap brackets has destroyed what little paint there was. in other words, JLR supplied substandard mud flap brackets that have affected the substandard finish on the cross member but are trying to wriggle out of it. I and many other puma owners would be interested in your response 54 Freelander modded for mud 2008 D3 SE 2010 90 XS SW 1978 88 Series 3 undergoing surgery with a new owner 2007 90 County Truck Cab - gone 2006 D3 SE - gone 2004 Freelander Sport - gay 1999 Disco V8 ES rotted to bits |

my dealer refused to warranty the mud flap brackets so i powder coated my own, the cross member is a state at the moment and i asked the dealer to take care of it whilst doing other bubbling paint on the roof and back door... its right in the most awkward of places the only way i can see anything being done is going to require a massive strip down

Is there some way we can open this up to the 'forum' a little more? After all - that is the point of a forum, otherwise it's just private email. This is an issue that affects pretty much every single Defender owner, and one I'm sure that everyone would be interested in. I understand that there is a reason to have private communication regarding specific cases, but I'm sure that any general information would be greatly appreciated. 2005 Td5 | 90 Station Wagon | Tonga Green

It said, and I'm paraphrasing here, "please send me the pictures"
