Defender 110 abused by a Pinzgauer in a Crash
I’ve just come back from a full weekend of laning that nearly started in utter disaster. If you’ve seen the recent video of my vinyl wrapped Defender 110 you will know I’ve put a lot of work into it. Right at the start of this trip, which was led by a Pinzgauer, the bloke driving decided to take his handbrake off and forget he had a brake pedal. It wasn’t the vehicle owner I hasten to add but someone ‘having a go’ A 3 ton Pinzgauer gun truck and a 110 don’t mix that well funnily enough! Although he made a stupid mistake, guy seemed decent enough and has said he will pay for the damage. That may change once we assess the extent of the damage. Bumper alone is about £440 Check out my YouTube channel for green laning and Land Rover "how to" videos.

SOrry to hear about that. He should hold up to his word but if he doesn't I assume he's insured?

I know I am and I know the actually owner of the Pinzgauer is. I'm hoping I don't have to find out if his passenger is but I suspect not! Check out my YouTube channel for green laning and Land Rover "how to" videos.

It matters not - if you were on a byway then that is a public road as defined by the road traffic act. The driver's insurance company will cover third party risk even if the insured owner is not driving - as is the case here.
Paying would be the decent thing for the friend to do - but I suspect when he learns of the bill he may have a change of heart. You have a legitimate claim against the other vehicle's insurance company, and video footage to demonstrate culpability. In fact, it is a reportable collision so should have been reported to a local police station as soon as practicable, and in any case within 24 hours. Any further q's then do PM me - I deal with this stuff every day at work... My blog - www.anacreinhampshire.blogspot.co.uk 110 TD5 BuildHERE - sold! 110 Tdci Build HERE - sold! Passat Alltrack - 4x4, auto, 45mpg, gloriously comfortable - but not a Defender! |

Mmmmm!! Yeah that's my only worry to be honest. I haven't reported it because the bloke has made all the right noises. I should know the cost by tomorrow and if the cash isn't forthcoming then it might be an insurance job.
If I report it then, some 5 days after the event will that be too late based on the circumstances? Check out my YouTube channel for green laning and Land Rover "how to" videos. |

Bad luck - amazing amount of damage for a roll back incident - but then I guess it wasn't an ordinary vehicle rolling back!
Did wince a little watching the chap casually watching the winching operation at the end. |

Am I the only one underwhelmed by the amount of damage?
I guess you can't see the speed but bonnet, wings, chassis etc all look ok? Obviously any damage is v annoying and gutting given timing but looks like your bumper took most of the brunt of it? Any pics with bumper removed or showing damage? Hope it gets resolved without too much hard feelings Cheers, David Land Rovers of all shapes S3 onwards… Daily is a 110 V8. |

Well yeah, it more shows how good a job the bumper did but new bumper, new plate, grill and grill surround, that were all aftermarket stuff. That's a good £700 worth of stuff and not to be sniffed at! Check out my YouTube channel for green laning and Land Rover "how to" videos. |

Do you guys in the UK have the same European accident forms as we on the continent? I mean the form in 4 copies or so where both parties each fill out their side and their version of the accident. Which works well in case there is clear cut resposibility and admittance of fault by one of the parties. No need to involve police then.
If that Pinzgauer admits his fault and offers to pay for all your damage, the sensible thing to do is first jointly fill out that accident form in a way where Mr. Pinzgauer clearly admits to his fault, and properly signs the form as such. You give him his copy, you keep the other copies, and if he would have a change of heart later on, you both can still send the forms to your insurance companies. Here with us it is no problem if you do that a day later, or even a few days after the accident. If you do that, Mr. Pinzgauer ideally is going to pay the damage promptly after having it properly assessed by a garage authorized to do so and who then agrees to repair it all for that estimate. If Mr. Pinzgauer is shocked by the cost he would have to cough up, you get the insurance involved by sending in the forms, and his insurance then will pay up. By filling out the form he keeps the option to pay outside of insurance open till he knows the amount, and you are hedged in case he does not want to pay. You never actually own a Defender. You merely look after it for the next generation. http://youtu.be/yVRlSsJwD0o https://youtu.be/vmPr3oTHndg https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_GtzTT9Pdl0 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ABqKPz28e6A https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rLZ49Jce_n0 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XvAsz_ilQYU https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K8tMHiX9lSw https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=dxwjPuHIV7I https://vimeo.com/201482507 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZSixqL0iyHw |

Just wonderng where the bumper failed for the A bar to be forced back into the grill? Did it rotate around the chassis bolts or higher up? Aslo, did the A bar contribute to some of the damage or not? |

MMmmmmm!! Not really sure. I'm as a good as my word and assuming he will be as he said he would pay at the time. Bit worried I have to say! Check out my YouTube channel for green laning and Land Rover "how to" videos.
