Hi guys just a quickie, but I have a clonking rotational noise coming from the front end of my 110 which can only be heard when driving down a quiet road or narrow road between parked cars. I can't work out what it is and Nene, who I bought it from say there isn't anything loose down there. Can you please give me some suggestions or help.
Many thanks. |

A friend at work thinks its either a flange or CV joint!!
you can feel the vibration when you rock the car through the front and rear steering arms |

Hi guys further to the noise thats coming from the front axle!
When i lift the front wheels off the ground and rock the wheels back and forth there is a clonking noise that sounds like it is coming from the hubs, however its the same noise thats coming from both sides, and thats when the car is in or out of gear. I suppose it would be easier to have someone hold the propshaft at the same time to see if its related! It seems that its always quite hard to distinguish where exactly problem noises are on defenders!! One thing to say and that is when i had a look at the oil in the front axle, it was black but still had the consistency of oil and not a gloopy mess! One other thing, when i set off from stand still and the engine is cold there is a serious clonking from the front axle, and you get this every time you set off from stopping, once the vehicle has warmed up , it goes away. Any ideas here? |
