They have no markings on them though so suspect them not to be genine.

Think you have answered your own question... Whistle
Mine are original, so LR emblem marked, and after 5 years +60k KM, like new Thumbs Up You never actually own a Defender. You merely look after it for the next generation.

Found the pics I took when I replaced mine. Admittedly, Td5 mudflaps were the worst in my experience - you see loads of Td5's with all mudflaps missing. The Puma ones that I replaced mine with seem a bit better, but they're still pretty hard and plastic rather than rubber. Anyway, I made a cardboard template of the brackets and then used this to cut a piece out of the bottom edge of each of the old flaps, extending the very bottom edge by a couple of centimetres so it would come down past the bottom edge of the bracket. This acts as a buffer between the new flap and the sharp edge of the bracket, stopping the two from being in direct contact. It stops the new flap from 'creasing' along the sharp edge of the bracket. Also put some bigger washers on the back, as the old ones cracked around the washers too. Pictures probably explain it better!

Old cracked ones (Td5):
