Hi Guys,
Check out Lidl this monday, 23rd September, all seems great value, lets hope they have standard pcl type fittings, if so I'll be having an airline (or 2?) http://www.lidl.co.uk/cps/rde/SID-A0A17767...htm?id=122 Chris 2010 Defender 110 Station Wagon, Santorini Black. |

I ended up just making an adapter piece on the end of the airline to make my tools compatible

You're right guys, I don't think it will a deal breaker if I have to change the fittings, only a few quid from Machine Mart.

As a professional machine then no, you pays your money etc but for occasional home use they are great to have tucked away in the garage. They don't break the bank and if you find the tools aren't up to the job then you can make the decision to go and get better ones if you get that serious.

Cheap air tools last a LOT better than cheap electrical tools. And ALDI/LIDL's stuff is usually pretty good for the money, plus you can inspect them in the shop prior to purchase (unlike an Ebay special). The only thing I would say is that the DA sander will gulp air at a rate most home workshop air compressors won't cope with. There I might plump for the electric model. As for the fittings, yes they're the standard german fitting - actually probably a high Cv than PCLs, but not helpful if you have PCLs. An adaptor can be made up for a couple of pounds though. Or, my preference, unscrew the Deutsche fitting an screw in PCLs with a dab of loctite thread sealant. Matt Real trucks don't have spark plugs |

I agree with you guys re the quality, but I don't use the airtools often enough to justify the pro type tools so I'm sure they will be fine, and if not there is a 3 year guarantee. I don't suppose a lot can go wrong with an airline (looked in the Machine Mart catalogue and the Lidl airline hose+reel looks very similar to their £35ish offerings) so even with new pcl fittings still looks a very good buy.

I guess I was looking for some validation that these had a decent duty cycle and were matched to the tools such that they could be used appropriately in the home garage situation. Not alot of info on the website and I seen reviews of other equipment that basically states the compressors are useless because they will only run tools for very short periods of time before tripping out or running out of air.

Bought mine from Aldi a couple of years ago along with a load of accesories.
Still working fine, no regrets. |

Now I can’t speak for LIDL’s stuff, but I have one of the ‘Wolf’ compressors (like you see in the back of the glossy magazines that come with Saturday papers) and I haven’t managed to cook it yet (grasping wood firmly). My cut-off tool quickly stalls out after 10 seconds operation, the drill after about 30 sec, which is frustrating but otherwise it powers things adequately. However, I wouldn’t attempt to power the DA sander, as previously alluded to. I even opened the drain valve one evening, yet neglected to turn the power off. 24 hours later, the compressor was still running, no discernible damage except to my electricity bill! Ultimately, compressors are like your first house – buy the largest you can afford. Real trucks don't have spark plugs |

+1 I have a 2.5hp 50-litre-tank jobbie. It's a Sealey I think, looks like the £169 one at Lidl. The 50 litre even means I can "charge" it up, remove from the mains, and pull it around the drive to blow-up the tyres on the 3 cars on our drive without having to re-"charge" it. Not done any really big jobs (planning to spray the inside of the garage walls with masonry paint soon which may challenge it!) , but so far it seems adequate for everything I have thrown at it... I think it's this one, and it's available for about the same costs as the Lidl one: Mine's about 3 years old, but it hasn't seen any heavy use yet... I must get around to changing the oil soon Defender "Puma" 2.4 110 County Utility (possibly the last of the 2.4's) |

Got a reel & airline, airline on it's own, a tyre inflator and the sandblaster. All look OK though I suspect the sandblaster will empty my air tank in double quick time! Now, off to machine mart for some pcl fittings.
Keith, what is your airline attached to? Chris 2010 Defender 110 Station Wagon, Santorini Black. |
