Standard clutch should be quite adequate for a TD5 with a PSI Powerbox, is does sound as though you need a new one.
I know of a TD5 Disco2 which has been running a PSI Powerbox and standard clutch for 60k+ miles with no issues whatsoever. |

I was thinking the same but as there is many experience here with tuned td5's I just want to know it for sure.
It would be a pity replacing my clutch and then find out that a standard one isn't strong enough. How many HP/torque would a standard clutch hold? Clutch on my 110 slips like when I boot it (tuned with VGT turbo and 1.2:2 t/box)
When I built it i had the wrong slave cylinder in it, so it was like having your foot resting on the clutch for the first 3000 miles of its life. then the fuel pressure regulator leaked, so covered it all in diesel (worth checking that on your one... the diesel doesn't take long to "burn off" once you fix the regulator) So mine needs doing too. I'd say if you have a high power tune, or hi load (as in, towing, big tyres, over geared etc) then the clutch needs to be in tip top condition. |

I have never heard of a TD5 clutch in good condition slipping, irrespective of power and/or load, and if it slips I would always take it as a sign that something was wrong.
With my Disco2 I have often towed up to 3.5 tonnes with no slippage. The day I towed 140 tonnes it was slipping a bit to get the load moving and there was a very hot clutch smell, but it was fine afterwards! If you had a seriously radical tune and greatly overloaded the clutch I would expect the DMF to fail first. There is I believe a small number of TD5s running around the 250bhp mark as far as I know on standard clutches. One of our 'in-forum' tuning gurus is probably best placed to answer this question. |

Is it not possible like how I did it with my Camel Discovery, just move de gearbox 25cm backwards to get just enough space to change the clutch? Roel

If you've got a decent trolley that will carry the 'box, then yes.
Removing the engine saves lying on your back for hours on end (enless you've got a ramp/pit) |

I did it in a real workshop on a bridge from my parts supplier
Byt if you work on the ground I think the most time you will be on your back anyway to loosen everything under the car. The time just to change the clutch and pressure plate is 30 minutes? Would you replace the DMF also? Or only if you see anything wrong? And what to look for with the DMF? Actually it was only 124 tonnes, I checked. Dead class 47 diesel loco needed moving a short distance in a rail yard.
It was actually easier to move than you might think. |
