What they said, I've read about reception for stick on ones - not great. A good aerial is not cheap.
Google search DABonwheels, they sell on ebay, but they clearly know their stuff. I bought a proper aerial from them for approx £60...I'll admit I haven't fitted it yet, but read the reviews and you'll be confident! 1998 110 300Tdi White Hard Top |

Well, just finished fitting the radio and aerial, and tried the radio first without fitting the element section, just had the connection wire connected and running up the windscreen pillar and it worked, so well that it automatically switched from FM. Then I attached the antenna element and still fine, I can't see any sort of signal strength display on the radio, a Kenwood KDC-BT73DAB, but it may be there somewhere, so don't know what difference the elements make or how strong the signal is.

Just an update.
The DAB radio is working really well, drove up the A30/M5 at the weekend, where my old radio used to lose the BBC signal just past dartmoor the DAB worked fine, there were a couple of occasions where the display said "No Signal" but the programme never faded, it must have been the DAB/FM blend working, but it was seamless, next time I go on a long run I"ll try a DAB only station to see if it drops out. I have the stick on Kenwood aerial, on a heated screen. No problem DAB all the way on trips from Cardiff to South West, London, Norwich, into Lincolnshire. Only time I've lost DAB AND FM was in Wales just North of Builth Wells and Snowdonia, due to the topography. No problem around Oswestry and Caernarfon.
Mine is fitted on the passenger side as per Kenwoods instructions. No problem with screen on or off. LANDYWATCH

I've recently bought the same head unit (Kenwood BT73DAB) - the stick on aerial went on the alpine light in the offside. Reception has been excellent on local runs - but I've yet to have a long drive.
You can see the signal strength on the display through the display settings. Overall I think that it's an excellent bit of kit... Always had problems with Radio 4 broadcasts being wayyyy too quiet on FM - but with my DAB it is sooooo much better.
Mostly I find that reception is pretty good for the DAB stations that have 'national' transmitters eg BBC, Planet Rock, etc, but the stations that have regional transmitters eg Kerrang! are so patchy if you are travelling on the edges of their areas.
