Worth checking on the 2.2, easy DIY. | |
1) check the air hose between inter cooler and the turbo, located just above the steering column. when it expands with high revs , gets fatter by around 2cm all round, check it doesn't rub on the main engine belt or the steering column. Mine was, put a hole in the hose lost power and sounded as if I was driving through water.
2) check the screw that checks for oil pressure is tight. It's located right by the oil filter, accessed from under engine, and has a black wiring sensor on the end of it. Quite big. Mine was loose and dripping oil, if it fell out I would lose all engine oil.
Simple checks, might save you time and hassle.
Any more ? Sib

I would very much appreciate to have a topic "sticky" where things like this are collected - if it makes sense for the 2.2 and 2.4 seperately.
Obviously there are some faults coming with the car as an option without extra charge from the assembly line.
And I can tell from the Dealer next to me (if only there was another one within range to cater for the work within the guarantee) that they do the routine work upon a routine service but not check for these faults. So it comes that you have had it serviced and little later get collectected by a recovery vehicle. OTOH many of us are able to use a spanner or know someone who does. So if you had a "check-list" you could spend a day and rectify things.
To add the list (in case there isnīt already one that Iīve missed. The topics have been discussed, but are spread all over the forum and cannot be found easily):
*) 2.2 = a big (about 2" diameter) coolant hose which emerges from the back of the water pump. Goes a couple of inches in direct line to the back but then goes downwards and then to the engine block. Right there it crossed above another hose which has a jubilee clip on it. The sharp end of that clip points upwards and punctures the coolant hose over the time.
