Speaker wires run to each end of the lower dash, where the speakers would be.

Ahh right, so passenger side under the wiper motor and I guess opposite side for the driver.? There are non at the mo. 1999 Defender TD5 110

Yep, that's it.
Passenger side the removable wiper motor cover section of the dash can be easily replaced by a version with a hole in. Given the ball-ache of removing the other dash lower section it might be easier to cut that one in situ, just watch the wiring behind. |

I think in this instance, I will leave the dash well alone and wire the OEM plugs/cables to the headling speakers. 1999 Defender TD5 110
