I'm after some advice please
We are relocating the sign company from SE London (020 8 number) to Kent (01622) at the end of November and want to take our number with us. It would seem the only way to do that is to turn it into a Voip number and use the internet at the new HQ for telephone calls. BT have told us we need two 'business telephone lines' both with business broadband on, one to handle the voip and the other for internet use. The 'private' company i've also approached reckon their supplied internet will handle the whole lot down the existing residential telephone line. Their will be three of us on internet / calls at any one time BT are a lot dearer (especially with two lines / broadband) and require an additional line to be installed which they can't quote for as we are in the country and will require new poles etc Question is, will the single line be able to handle our usage ? |

There are quite a few things to take into consideration to know if IP based telephony will work for you. The amount of bandwidth you have, the speed (latency) which is present on the bandwidth etc. Not all IP services allow access to emergency numbers so this should be discussed before switching.
Below is a VOIP bandwidth calculator which should help you calculate, communicate and understand your requirements. http://voip.rheid.com/voip-faqs/voip-bandwidth-calculator.html |

Don't know about the voip Matt but I'd be inclined to get another line anyway as if you have a card terminal then that won't work if someone is using the single line (as far as I know here anyway)
Knowing how hi tec FCX are I expect you'll be using an online terminal anyway (I'm looking to ditch the current terminals myself as they cost far more than an online one - which I have already) DJ 1989 200tdi 90 csw 2011 110 usw Orkney grey Buy British 🇬🇧 Defender Clothing Designs available at http://www.rangesports.com/acatalog/Defender-Stuff.html |

You do keep the London number. You just pay an extra £3 per month on top of the monthly landline rental and every call to the London number gets diverted at the local exchange to the Kent number and the customer is none the wiser.
Worth a look and you can switch it on in 24 hours... http://bt.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/...-diversion |

First thing to check is what BB service is available at your site, can you let me have your landline number ? Its the upload thats always the issue, you need either annexM or FTTC ideally, a single voip call uses about 100K each way with overheads.
A single line can cope but you need some very well setup routers with traffic prioritisation capabilities, not difficult, but needs setting up correctly, ideally two would be better then you have some redundancy if a line fails, i wouldn't touch BT with a bargepole, you need to be looking at an ISP like AAISP for VOIP use, they make BT look like amateurs, all my VOIP setups are with AAISP Let me know your landline number and we'll see whats possible JD 2008 TDCi 2.4 XS CSW |
