Hi all,
Not sure if anyone else can shed any light on this problem - 2013 2.2 Defender 90 with 6800 miles on clock. Power steering seems to freeze and become very stiff after turning hard right and then straightening out with left correction. Worst when steering has been used a lot (roundabouts etc) and at higher rpm. AA have been out and can see nothing wrong, no fluid discolouration or anything. Could it be a pump failure? Is this a known problem?? Hmmmm, thats not mud.... OK first things first. Check your tyre pressures and tyre wear (even across the tread or not). One tyre down on pressure can make the steering difficult in one direction, especially if fighting against the adverse camber of a roundabout.
Other things it could be; Stiff or seized steering ball joint Tracking out Aux belt worn and slipping Worn bushes on radius arms Defective shock absorber Defective steering damper Loose wheel bearing Spend a little time checking these out looking for play, wear and leaks. This sort of thing can be very annoying... |
