Puma engine oil specification
Does anyone know the technical difference between the Ford specification WSS-M2C-913-A and WSS-M2C-913-B?

Some oils specify both e.g.

Shell Helix F 5W30
Miller Oils XSS 5W30

and some only the B specification

Castrol Magnatec 5W-30 A1
Halfords part synthetic 5W/30

ps anyone know who makes the Halfords oils?

I tried here in RSA to find the correct oil to no avail, there is a difference in the A and B I was told by the Castrol rep.
They sell the oil only in 200 liter drums so as the agents are the only ones able to buy it.
They say this is a 3 year agreement with LR and Ford until the warenty's run out and then they will reduce to 5 liters.
I had to get oil from redline which was very pricy but full synthetic and better than the Ford spec.

Castrol say the magnetic oil works - but not the edge and complies with the WSS-M2C913-A

I have wondered what exactly the best thing to do with the oil is - you can in the UK get the oil for FORD tdci cars (as we have one and got it). Mike

That's interesting because in Australia Castrol says the Edge 0W/40 is suitable. The dealer uses Magnatec Pro 5W/30 and this is the same (I am told) as Castrol Edge 5W/30

All very confusing. 110 2.4TDCi

In the uk you can punch in the car or your reg and it will tell you what oils are approved - ive just done it and edge isnt listed, so i have no idea whats going on there!

Ive not come across magnatec pro...i wonder is thats something not for the UK or ive not noticed. Mike

The Castrol website recommends Magnatec and this is the oil used by my local LR dealer. Shell's reg no search comes up with the Helix F 5W-30. Confusingly Halford's website search by reg no doesn't list a suitable oil though their latest winter catalogue specifically mentions 5W/30 Ford oil to the B specification.

thanks mrwoo

the following may be helpful for anyone about to purchase oil:

for info I've just bought some Castrol Magnatec 5w-30 A1 from halfords. By ordering it online you save 10% and if you arrange to pick it up in store they have an additional instore offer where you get a litre free with every 4 litres. I believe the puma engine takes around 6.9 litres so I bought two four litre packs and got two litres free - total price 53.98 for ten litres.

The 10% off offer ends tomorrow I think - not sure about the free litre offer.

I had the same doubt regarding the differences between both.

According to the GTR specification A is for diesel with high sulphur content and B for diesel with low sulphur content.

I use Liquimoly Leitchauf with quite good results (fulfill A and B specs).

If buying at Costco for the Puma engine make sure it's Magnatec 5W-30 - at the Leeds Costco they only had Magnatec 10W40 which isn't suitable
