Trickle charge unit...
Can anyone recommend a decent trickle charge device, that I can plug onto my battery and power from the garage.

My truck is only for leisure and and such doesn't do many short frequent trips. Over time the batteries run down and sends my National Luna battery device batty.

Alarm chirping, monitor lights a flashing, and when I do have to start, sometimes I have to override the solinoid to get a start charge from both batteries.

So i need to source a trickle charger to switch between both batteries to keep things sweet. Thought about fabbing some flying leads from each battery and have them hanging out of the seat box, unless a better solution has been already outed.

Advice eagerly sought please Wink

CTEK without a doubt.

Pricey but reliable.

Amazon seem the best priced at the moment: http://www.amazon.co.uk/mn/search/?_encodi...lias%3Daps  1988 90 Td5 NAS soft top

2nd that, I have the 3600, works fine on a dual battery set up

I found a seller on ebay and got a package of charger, 12v lighter socket adaptor, crok clip adapter and eyelet adaptor all for about £45

Unless you've got it stored inside, how about a solar panel? With a bit of thought, you could even have it permanently fitted so you wouldn't even need to unplug anything. Darren

good idea LRA, but if you have it stored outside, someone could come along an take the panel (or the truck too)

have you got a panel on yours ? What would be your recommendation ? something from Maplin or something more sophisticated ?

Well yes, but on that basis nobody would ever bolt anything to their Land Rovers.

I don't have a panel on mine as it's used daily. Something in the 10-15w range from Maplin would be more than adequate though, I'd have thought. Darren

I use both a CTEK and a solar panel.

The CTEK socket is permanently wired to the vehicle, and a bought a 2nd CTEK plug which I have modified to fit the solar panel, so I can use both. I use the mains electric when it's in my garage which has mains connection, but I also have a garage with no mains connection so then I use the sloar panel...

The CTEK adapter in the vehicle also has a "comfort indicator" so I can see the condition of the battery.

The solar panel is a 13.5w (IIRC) from Maplin...very similar to this: http://www.maplin.co.uk/solar-powered-12v-...ger-217850

When I tried a Maplin solar panel, I found it didn't work too well. I subsequently think it was because I needed a diode in the circuit to prevent the panel discharging the battery when their is no sun.

Is this the case..?

Cheers

Simon

Come to billing and have a look at my set up on my car and the "visible" working show demo unit I have just fitted out in mobile centres trailer and the speaker 110, we have gone to town to make everything understandable. My car has the panel etc etc in a real world format.

I've ordered a CTEK MXS 7.0 and another comfort lead jobbie.

Amazon was my friend and should be here today.

thanks for the techie know-how, just need to source one of those 5m extension leads, from the garage to the truck.

See some you guys hopefully next friday at Billing. We normally pitch in Teal Meadow, near a little stream.
