salisbury plain
whilst i appreciate many of you venture here quite often, I've only been twice and was quite unsure as to where you are not not allowed to drive, can anyone give me a few pointers as to where might be a good days drive, I have an OS map of the area. Im planning on going there in the morning. thanks in advance.

SPTA is covered in By ways mate, have a look at the map 1:25,000 is best and pick a route. Trial and error will find you some good routes. Have fun Very Happy

but bear in mind a route on an OS map is not proof of it's legal status...

There are now loads of 'byway' signs all over the place so its not too hard to find your way around.

Do you have memory map on anything? if so it should be possible to obtain some previously driven routes from others Thumbs Up

However as previously mentioned this wouldn't guarantee that these routes are still open (bear in mind parts are sometimes closed for shooting!) Also some are bing closed (dead enders etc) and being replaced with new ones, so things change.

Although I have MM on the laptop, I must admit that for basic laning I now only use MM on my ipad/iphone which from memory was £10 for MM and then £19.99 for 1:50k map.

Just follow the pink crosses! As mentioned the map isn't definative therefore to be bullet-proof check with the local ROW Officer, however generally speaking the Plain is fairly well open all year.

Have fun!

I downloaded an app called outside for my iphone it was free, it proved quite good basically OS maps for free, though when i lost signal on the phone it didnt work. I had the OS maps too, though my map reader did get lost occasionally Sad

Trying to persuade my friend to get a 4x4 as i realise going on our own isnt great.

Well if anyone is heading out anytime please give me a shout. Have also spent too much of my life on the green stuff there, and would love to take her out onto the open routes but going from West London on my tod is a bit much. Plus, there more of us there are, the louder the laughs at the Vitaras / Cherokees etc that are stuck (before we pull them out for a suitably refreshing price).
