If it's just started happenng then it's a fault rather than a 'feature'. It probably is the clutch switch though. Darren

Mine will run for a couple of months without reving between gear changes then it will start do so, the next day it stops for a couple of months, fault codes checked .............nothings. Don't make old people mad.
We don't like being old in the first place, so it doesn't take much to us off. Richard |

Make sure your brake lights are working - yes there is a connection

spooky. Just had a look at the wiring diagram. Never expected there to be a connection to the ECU. But it is (2.2TD4 at least). A connection is just "behind" the switch. But non working lights shouldn´t have an effect then. |

On the 2.4 if the brake lights go (especially the fuse) you get high rev holding on gear change. Happened on my 2009 110 when the fuse went - confused everybody for a few hours

As said above the brake switch and fuse are important to correct engine running. Below is a diagram showing the switch, fuse and ECM. All related parts must be working correctly and be fully funtional as not to have running quirks and anomalies.

Any other ideas for this, checked my fuses and no bulbs blown either.
The anti-stall does not work in low range either (I.e. the revs do not increase when in low) Thanks |

You checked that the brake lights actually work did you, not just that the fuse and bulbs are OK?
Anti-stall does not raise the engine revs, it resists them dropping and the engine thus stalling. The raised tick-over in low range is something to do with preventing the car running too slowly in low gears - which seems a little odd. The raised tick-over must be triggered by a switch on the high/low gear selector. Chris |

The 'idle jack' only works in low first, none of the other low range gears.
If you engage low first and drive a short way, then depress the clutch and stop, you should find the revs drop. Simply engaging low box won't affect the engine revs on tick over. As noted above, the idle jack is completely different to the anti stall and is provided to prevent excessive engine braking in low first, especially on steep loose descents. Edit - the ecu uses inputs from the high.low selector shaft switch, the first gear selector, and the clutch pedal switch to operate idle jack. |

Hmmm...Same stuff here! Gonna check my lights...(reason sounds wierd)
Update: yeah, right! The stop lights fuse was the reason. The upper stop light (on the 5th door) - doesn't play any role, but the side lights do:) I've replaced the fuse & it's ok now! Thanks, mates! |

2.4 Puma will definitely be sensitive to clutch switch failure and its wiring. If you are not getting gear recognition (which is derived from vehicle speed over engine speed), then you need to look at your vehicle speed input to the ECU. Roads? Where we're going, we don't need roads.
