The old Q plates. Pretty sure insurance company won't pay out if it's pinched as it's already been paid off so third party liability only. Price wise this means it's worth a he'll of a lot less than a normal one I would guess.
A mate had a bike pinched and they ground off the engine number and plate, he bought it back aftervi was recovered but dvla Q plated it. Was worthless to sell. Pom |

i think its pretty obvious that insurance write offs are not worth the same as a normal motor. Pom |

do what everyone else does and rebuild it onto a new chassis and relavent V5! Q plates are dear to insure, look dodgy, even if there not, and as Pom said are worth less than an age related plate. although if it's cheap enough it will sell |

Check with your insurance company if they will pay out if stolen. My 200 Tdi was a stolen/recovered when I bought it. After owning it a few years some b******s tried to nick it resulting in some damage, new locks needed etc. I didn't have any problems with the insurance paying out. It wasn't on a Q plate however but an age related (and as far as I'm aware it's original) reg.

INDEMNIFY!
We pay insurance to the insurance company to indemnify us. That means we should be in the same position as we started if our vehicle was stolen.... The insurance company will always try to limit their loss which is why they try to negotiate a settlement. I had no problems insuring the Q plate using one of the companies as listed in the back of the Landy magazines... An agreed value was no problem. It is for sale cheaper than any other I can find locally to me. My mate (we all have mates with opinions) is a traffic cop and has been for about 25 years including being in stolen vehicle squad, has looked over the vehicle and is of the opinion it could be easily sorted out on an age related plate.. The vehicle is for sale at a reasonable price, its a great driving motor so if anyone is interested please don't let the Q plate put you off.... It would be a great motor to rebuild on a galvanised chassis, but i dont have the space or time... |

I agree that Q plates are perceived as being worth less money but it is NOT true that insurance companies won't pay out on them. For starters a Q plate only means the vehicle is of indeterminable age not that it has been stolen. I have a trayback TD5 Defender that is Q plated because the galvanised chassis it was built up on was ex military and had never been registered and therefore impossible to date. Your vehicle will not be on a Q plate because it was stolen recovered, more likely that the stolen parts were replaced with parts from other vehicles and couldn't be dated |

As we seam to be digging up old threads !!
My trayback challenge truck was a Q Plate,, only because it went through the tough SVA test when built and was highly modified ,, Q plates have nothing whatsoever to do with being stolen With a comp vehicle, a Q plate is a distinct advantage, California F1, 75th 110 "Kermit", 50th Ann V8, 90 V8 Hybrid, 55 Series 1 Main Brian James Trailer Dealer for South West UK |
