When to change the rear springs?
OK, 2007 Puma 110 CSW 140,000km some quite heavily loaded, many towing trailers.

Over the last few years the car has slowly subsided and has now probably lost a good 7 cm of rear height, due to the springs loosing their springyness. I have the standard LHD 5 seat SW rear springs fitted - RKB101111 (Purple/Brown) .

Currently with the car empty the (compressed) springs are slightly less than 310mm long. Their uncompressed length should be 409.96.

Now, can anybody tell me what their (compressed) length should be in an unladen car? and perhaps more importantly, what the LR recommendation is for when they should be changed?

Thanks

Jon

PS not really interested in upgrading or doing anything special to the suspension, but I would like to change them at the correct time.

Not necessarily an upgrade but just a suggestion, my 2002 110 sw's springs were getting tired on the back, combination of towing and amount of junk/much needed/well might be needed stuff in the back and I came across some 130 inner springs for next to nothing but cost me in getting the fitting plates. With the combination of softer springs and the support of the new inners the ride is back to standard as well as ride height and give good service when towing or with heavy loads on the roofrack or in the back.

That is one solution I had thought about, however, the French have quite strict rules about changeing anything on the car - and the penalties can be eye watering - especially if you have an accident (even if the modifications were not the cause of the accident).

I would quite happily change the springs for any other 110 rear spring (e.g. the Green/yellow/yellow of the 7 seat SW) as this would never be detected, but having a visible second spring would cause problems if it was ever detected.

In this thread http://www.defender2.net/forum/topic17546.html I found:

standard spring seat to seat height for a TD5 90 are ~260mm front and ~300mm rear. Not sure if these altered with PUMA.

Anybody know the numbers for a Puma 110???? or have a new puma that they could measure?

Thanks

Jon
