The prop will need to be in the correct position to get onto the nipples.
And if you have zero backlash I assume you had the hand brake on If you do have loads of slack in the front will probably be diff, this can be adjusted, although it can also be the combined play in many items adding up. How much play ( degrees ) do you have? Nuts and bolts can be reused, I have many times, but good practice is to replace the nylocks a each time, but I've never lost one yet. You should really disconnect at least one end of the shaft when greasing since it is the only way to articulate the joints fully.

I grind one side of the grease gun to within an inch of its life but often the grease nipples come pointing at the yoke and not out to the gap. So much for PDI and servicing care. I got a brand new front prop on the front due to the supplied shaft coming with no nipples from the factory. The new shaft was fitted ungreased and the nipples were impossible to get the gun on as they were pointing toward the yoke... Disgusting!! 2008 RS4 gone, 123d M Sport, and a Puma 90 XS..

Remove the existing grease nipples and replace with 'long necked' grease nipples (Obtained from motor factors).
Alternatively, arm yourself with midget spanner (BA) and turn the grease nipple to accept the grease gun valve. No need to faff around with propshaft. El pepe Flamenco. JLS 'El Pepe Flamenco' |

I use Castrol LMX.
Edit. After posting I find that LMX is now discontinued in the UK but it isn't entirely clear what Castrol consider its replacement to be. I will email Castrol to find out. |
