Smoking Problem - Engine White Smoke
Hi All, I'm new to the forum and wonder if anyone can help with a new issue affecting my 2007 90 County H/T Puma?

It's a 115k mile (Full Service History) vehicle in lovely condition owned by me since March. Up to now it has run perfectly and two weeks ago passed the MOT emissions test but over the last week a strange smoking problem has developed.

After running cleanly for 5 minutes from a cold start it starts to pump out clouds of white smoke while standing in traffic and pulling away. These are huge clouds enough to cause pedestrians to point and the car behind to drop right back. This lasts for about 10 minutes and then clears once I'm driving at a cruising speed of 40mph and more. After that, with the engine warm, every time I stop at traffic lights/roundabout I get a puff of white smoke when starting to move off. The longer I sit idling the more smoke on pulling away.

The car is not using any oil or water. No warning lights illuminate. Temperature is normal. Performance is unaffected with the turbo spooling up as it should. MPG hasn't changed - about 380 miles per tank of Shell V-Power (90 H/T so smaller fuel tank). No sign of any leaks from the turbo or intercooler hoses.

Any ideas on things I could check at home would be appreciated before I'm forced to visit my local garage.

Valve stem seals usually means you burn oil on just start up or continuously dependant on how bad they are, had an old BMW that did this on pot 5 just on start only, advice was to leave well alone at the time. If you go through life with your head in the sand....all people will see is an ar5e!!

Treat every day as if it is your last....one day you will be right!!

Burning lubricating oil usually = blue smoke. Steve.

White smoke is either unburnt fuel or water. Head gasket? Cracked/warped head?
