I'm M3OJR up here in Fife. I'm planning on putting mine below the cubby box spacering the box as necessary. I've seen it done in a friend's 300 and there doesn't seem to be any heat problems from the transmission. Also he removed the wooden spacer brackets and replaced them with ally ones and rear hinged the whole thing for quick access. It works well and the extra height makes the cubby more useable as an armrest. |

If you hinge at the rear, doesn't the cubby crash into the rear bulkhead on a 90..? (I note Swallock has a 110 so shouldn't be a problem for him).

True but our Tdci is a 110.
My 90, being an original 1984 motor has the radio screwed to the main panel above the fuse box and in front of the gearstick ( that radio doesn't have a demountable front). I could still hinge the cubby though as I have a Mud 4x4 bulkhead delete kit which removes the vertical part of the bulkhead. |

I'm in the same boat, I have a Kenwood 2m/70cm rig with a seperation kit, I thought perhaps put the main part of the set in the cubby box (it's not very big) and mount the head on a gooseneck type stalk bolted to the passenger side of the transmission tunnel, but I like the idea of raising the cubby box JR, very cunning!

Mine is the on the front of the Cubby box, but mine is a TD5.

Greetings to all from Simonstown, South Africa
I'm in the process of installing an Icom 7000 into my 110 Puma (station wagon). As it will not be a pemanent installation the intention is to mount the radio on the rear panel of the centre glove box ie the one between the 2 front seats. I've been told that I can expect a lot of electronic intererence on HF. would anyone care to comment with their experience and hopefully how to overcome the problem (if it exists)? Thanks for all the replies, it would seem that some form of cubby box conversion is the preferred method of mounting, guess it also gives easy access to power and routing options for the remote head cable. My only worry would be the heat that a 706 can put out even when just switched on.

Fortunately both my "kids" are over 30! and they both have their own 4x4's!! If and when grand-children arrive on the scene, I'll tie them on the roof-rack! My concern of actually concealing the body of the IC 7000 is that it generates a lot of heat (more than the 706).
I should be installing the radio this weekend after fixing the ball-mount for Hustler antennas on the side of the roof-rack. Hopefully the roof-rack or the ladder will provide sufficient earthing. 73 Sam |
