Difference is, you're being upfront about the risk. You're telling the insurers that there are multiple vehicles, multiple drivers etc, and they can make their minds up on the cost to cover that risk because you've fully disclosed the circumstances. Knowing that pretty much anyone could be driving, they charge the appropriate premium.
In Mav's case the insurers have been told that Mav's dad is the main driver, that he does the majority of the motoring. Mav has been proposed as being an occasional driver. As a result, the premium is lower because the risk is smaller. If they were up front about the usage, it would be clear that Mav is the main or possibly sole driver and the risk is therefore greater. I'm talking about statistical risk here, not casting any aspersions on Mav's driving ability. In the event of a claim where a young, named driver was at the wheel the insurers will want to know what the purpose of the journey was. If it's going to college or going to work, they'll investigate further as this points towards consistent regular use and therefore "fronting" of a policy. They'll expect to see fuel receipts paid by the main driver, other evidence that the main driver's other car hasn't been used regularly etc. Other things they look at are the cars available to the household, the accessories fitted to the "new driver" car in the house, the condition of the vehicles etc. So if there's a saloon, a 4x4 and a eurobox with a 1.0l engine on the drive and the eurobox has a bangin' stereo and Retard-o seatbelt covers, you're fooked. 54 Freelander modded for mud 2008 D3 SE 2010 90 XS SW 1978 88 Series 3 undergoing surgery with a new owner 2007 90 County Truck Cab - gone 2006 D3 SE - gone 2004 Freelander Sport - gay 1999 Disco V8 ES rotted to bits |

I am lucky I live in The Netherlands
There is a premium for below 24 years but most off the time the car is on one off the parents name. Further na questions asked. No named drivers etc. Everybody can drive my car as long as they have a driving license. The reason is less testosterone
The person most likely to have a car accident is a male under 23. Girls tend to be more careful drivers and take less risks This was covered on the BBCs One Show last night and they were very clear that fronting constitutes fraud Doesn't stop loads of people doing it though MAD COW 2007 90 Hard Top - 2009 BMW F800GS - 2002 CCM 604E Dual Sport Project90 |

Good to hear your back in the Landie, my first drive when I was 17 was a Series 3 Landie simply because the insurance was so cheap.
