More of a road tread would be a step in the right direction, and a lower profile tyre to stop sidewall flex
Stiffer A/R bar yes, although with the height/CoG of a defender you may just end up lifting a back wheel on a spirited corner.... ... I fitted a scrapiron orange mega thick "road going" A/R bar to my 110 when I first built it, then took it to wales laning apart from not much axle travel for the first couple of lanes, once the mounting bolts sheared I got my travel back (also running 130" twin rear springs, which probably didn't help much at all) For just road use I reckon a thick HD bar would be ideal. |

Even replacing the standard shocks with Koni Heavy Trak was a very useful upgrade for me... Good improvement for a minimal outlay in cost & time Defender "Puma" 2.4 110 County Utility (possibly the last of the 2.4's)

I repeatedly read about people praising suspension upgrades with different springs but much more so different shocks. Fox and King are the names. Individually setup/valved for each vehicle.
I personally donīt understand too much about that. But Iīve been told that most of the cheaper aftermarket shocks tend to make the vehicle "stiffer" thus giving the impression of a better suspension. But in a critical situation they not may be up to the job. It were better to have them a little softer on the road but have them "tough" when itīs asked from them. The guy in my country who really seems to know advised me to either stick with the standard shocks (cheap, fairly effective) or go "high end", but not inbetween. |

FWIW, my recently bought Defender 90 that had std height heavy duty blue springs and Cellular Dynamics shocks handled excellently on road. Nice smooth and compliant ride, very impressed. I then changed to lowered springs so that I could fit it in the garage. At the same time I fitted Konis all round and once again the ride is very impressive. I also have pro flex bushes all round, so don't know how much this contributes.
The previous shocks and springs are like new and in the garage taking up space......... |

Whats peoples experience of adding wider wheels to improve road holding? Get the suspension changes but unsure on the wheels Chris B

Anything is possible but I don't think it would be at all easy, unfortunately. You'd have to transplant the pump, valve block, ECU, accelerometers, plumbing, and antiroll bars, and make it all work.
It is a shame really since the D2 with ACE probably has the best rigid axle 4x4 suspension setup of all time. |

A set of b6 bilsteins all round, performance lowering springs and uprated anti roll bars along with a remap. My gosh can you chuck that into a corner Had a customer down to test drive another customers 110 all we changed was the shocks and he loved it CSK Automotive
