Getting more common by the day
![]() Think I was the first to report the failure last year on my 2009 2.4 110 and there have been a few more since then, one very recently. I rejected my first 110 in 2009 but after a month. LR build quality is not the best but that one set new standards ![]() ![]() You must give LR a chance to resolve issues, especially with 14K on the clock. If that fails then you will need to engage LR themselves, not an easy task. This happened to me last week (see http://defender2.net/forum/topic21166.html ) and is now all sorted. The independent LR garage I went to said they hadn't seen this failure before.
Bloody thing was only 8 weeks out of warranty so I had to pay for it out of my own pocket. I'll be sending a letter to Land Rover though... Mike |

yep - I'm a member too.
shaft went at c 22k miles (c2yrs)......and I drove it like a fairy. had one or two other issues (won't bore you with)......might having nothing to do with the shaft but I ended up with a new gear box shortly after the replaced shaft. ?? 2yrs from new and it would appear everything has been ironed out ( ![]() ![]() |

Mine has developed a gradual whine from the Transfer Box since nearly new, dealer has been notified and has suggested to me to keep an eye on it

the splines are too fine ?
I'm not saying they aren't but given some of the high mileage one that have been ok then I presume they much be adequate (if only just?) there must be something more than a design issue for them to fail in c20k (of very gentle driving) and other to exceed 200k without a problem? |

It's been suggested before that faiure is due to inadequate lubrication on assembly, which would explain the apparently random failures. Darren

I've still got the parts that failed, and looking at them it's clear that the splines are not evenly worn. The splines on the end look perfect while most look pretty worn away. This makes me wonder if incorrect fitting is part of the problem, leading to a smaller area of the splines bearing an excessive load, leading to increased failure?

The stealer here has just fixed the shocking driveline slop in my 2010 and part of the prob was that shaft apparently. Seems to me to be down to bad assembly as are most of the problems with this vehicle.
Certainly doesn't give me any confidence to continue to go to remote areas in it. AlanH. |

![]() what exactly did they do? (there might be another problem lurking that I've not found yet). my last issue seemed to be the hand brake drum and shoes not fitted properly together with the empty sandwich packaging left in there from lunch on the assembly line ![]() really pleased to hear you've found another fix. hopefully your confidence will soon be restored. |

For months now I have had terrible back lash and drive problems . All the same symptoms as reported . My dealer took the gearbox out and confirmed splines on this shaft very worn along with other worn parts . New transfer box required and this was 2 wks ago . There are NO transfer boxes in stock at the factory and there is a back order for over 18 vehicles parts . Arrrrrrgh ? I had planned an overland trip to Tbilisi Georgia , leaving this Sunday , guess I'm flying then ? My 110 sits at the dealer as I go away for 6wks with no date known when new gearboxes will arrive . What's new then ?
