The tyres will fit the wheel fine as they are a 7 j wheel, and becomes a 8j with beadlocker fitted. So tyres will work with and without locker ring. Personally I would not fit the locking rings if you are planning to use mainly on road, as not good for balancing.
The offset will help massively with your turning circle, over a standard wheel with a 285 tyre fitted. If you want to buy some I suggest you talk to Royalduc on here, he will look after you I am sure Andy |

What colour are you after?
I have one Anthracite from a cancelled order, which will be cheap. And can do you a deal on 4 more (or even 5 if you need a different colour). I might even consider a deal for your current X tech wheels.... The Terrafirma wheel is only 7" wide as Andy mentioned, but technically a 285 75 16 should only be used on a 7.5" rim... in saying that, I know lots of people who run 285's on a 7" rim without a problem. Thanks Andy,
That's what I was hoping Porny, ideally I wanted black wheels to work with the grey and black x tech colour scheme. I used to run 285s on boost alloys on a previous defender and had no issues, from the looking I did yesterday I thought that maybe the bead lockers were of a different construction that supported larger wheels without the beads? Are there any other wheels out there that are a larger offset ( to save using spacers) and also in a larger width, other than the zu's or Mach 5's? |

i have a set of Machs 5s if that is the route you go for.
beadlocks - if your running 90% of the time and mileage off road i would consider them but then only if it was serious offroad and then i would look for a double beadlock. the other option is ART Motorsport, they will make you a rim to what ever off set you wish, beadlock or not and not that much ££££, see my other post on the rims they did for me. Hi Spark83,
my understanding was that the offset on the terrafirm beadlock wheels was +20mm. the standard boost alloys are +33 so you're only really getting an extra 13mm each side. Given that 285s are 50mm wider than standard 235s, surely your turning circle would be worse than standard as you've got 25mm extra tyre width each side but only 13mm increase in the offset? I'm currently running 255/85s (which are a tad taller than 285/75s) on twisted sport 5 spokes with a zero offset and have been able to turn the steering stops right in for a decent turning circle. |

Hi interested in your Xtech alloys if & when you find a replacement if they are black ?
Just ordered a new defender & left it on steels as prefer the black alloy, let me know if no one is swopping. kr Paul 2020 P300 HSE |

Thanks guys,
Looking into it I can't really find any alloys I like other than the x tech alloys and the terrafirma bead locks, but they are both 7inch wheels, so I opted for keeping my existing wheels and going for 265's with 30mm spacers. Little visit to ajs this afternoon and I'm now sorted. Thanks for the advice though. |
