Fitting a new rear fuse/relay box - good thing to do??
Having looked through other threads I'm slowly developing a wiring diagram. Want to wire up spots, rear inspection lamp, reversing camera, fun horn, rear sockets and wheelchair hoist.
Want to install a separate fuse/relay box in the rear of the 110. Have a main supply from the battery to it through an isolation switch - so I can isolate all accessories that I've fitted with one switch.
Like the idea, off other threads, of flexible conduit up the and out of the back panel and up onto the roof rack. Then spots, reversing camera and rear inspection lamp from the roof rack conduit run.
Have got so far - realising how much work is involved!! Am I going in the right direction?
Need to work out amps and cable sizes, lengths and then work out a shopping list.
Before I go any further - Is having a fuse/relay box in the back the best thing to do??
pdf below shows progress so far

I fitted another fusebox under the passenger seat adjacent to the battery. Yes it is a good idea to keep everything tidy! More details here:

Great thanks. That , along with other threads, will be a big big help.

A question though. Having the fuse box in the battery compartment - does that remove the possibility of having a second battery??
Hence why I was lookung to put the fuse box in the rear (away from everything)?

I should explain I am completely new to defenders, so working things out as I go along!! with lots of help from this forum!!

It is possible to fit two batteries and a fuse box in the existing battery box if you choose the components carefully. BPman put some good pictures up of his set-up, which used a Bluesea fuse box and, I think, Oddessey batteries. The relays would be more of a challenge though. You'd struggle with the homebrew arrangement that K9F has shown above due to the size of the enclosure, but it may be possible to mount relays in a differently shaped enclosure and squeeze them in.

Alternatively, build the whole lot in a box and mount it in the back somewhere. This is probably the route I'll take as most of the additions I want (rear work light, reversing camera, etc) are at that end of the vehicle and it's easy to pick up connections from side and reversing lights for the logic switching that will be involved.

There are lots of ways that this sort of thing can be done, of course. Just make sure you have a clear record of what you end up with to help with future fault finding! Darren

As Darren says, I have fitted a dual odyssey pc1500's, a blue sea split charge, a blue sea 12 way common bus fuse box, and 3 relays into my battery box in a way that they can all be accessed.

I have 7 used already and some spares in the fuse box, there is a common +ve and -ve rails on he fuse box, makes for a neat install.

Either use different colour cables or use cable number collars to document the installations, after 6 months you will forget what all the cables do and will be a pain for maintenance

If I were doing it again, I would run convoluted trunking from the battery box to the under seat fuse box on the other side and keep all the fuses together, and specifically run the trunking inside the vehicle.

I mounted ,my fuse box on the top of the batteries on the securing rail, I would not recommend mounting it sideways in he battery box because unless you have girls spindly hands you won't be able to get to the fuses

Be careful about the fuse box you buy there are blue sea copies that are taller and IMHO not such good quality. Tim at mobile centre is a reseller and I can vouch for the quality

A company called polevolt.co.uk are also,a good source for car electrics

Your other option is to put your auxiliary fuse board (or in my case two) under the drivers seat, there's a few more pictures in the FCX130 thread.

I'm also a fan of Mobilecentre and all my components have come from there

Ok thanks all. Lots of thinking and reading to do. I think I understand now how to show my initial drg as a jpeg rather than a pdf so it should show underneath.

I'll look at space under drivers seat and also options for the rear. At the moment my preference is to fit a fuse/relay box in the rear by the speaker panel (seems to be wasted space really in the 110 (with the seats in) but I'll continue to read the multiple threads on here and think about cable runs.

As I said I am new to Defenders so will read carefully all your experiences/lessons learnt.

Should say I'm not an electrician!! so excuse the drawing

Idea
Seems to be plenty of room at the back of the 110 near side ( off side has fuel filler line).
Could put fuse/relay box with a front panel boxed into this area.
(could even have LED's amp meter, Volt meter - if I get even more carried away!!!)

Am I missing a trick - is this space needed for something else? Question

Had another look under the drivers seat. At first I thought "no room" but actually there is some. So will size things up and continue to work out wiring runs etc

Same reaction here ! Where is that all coming from ? Did they remove everything from the steering column or something ? Chris

Yep that's the layout of the drivers seat box, plus the secondary fuse box is still under the steering column.
