I'm feeling a little damned annoyed today, I was out earlier and whilst waiting to load a lorry decided to apply the spanners to tighten up the weaping pressure pipe on the power steering pump. Big mistake, I hadn't had any Wheetabix this morning but the damn thing decided to shear off. Never mind I thought, bit of a phone round and I can pick up a replacement. You can buy the pipes/hoses but the adapter part that screws into the pump body is only sold with the pump. Tried a weld repair but all that gave me was a well lubricated engine bay. Of course these things happen when you're away from home, just the trusty mobile for information off t'internet so ended up joining the pipes together and let the pump run dry and try a couple of hydraulic specialists on the way home, all the garages local had got plenty of tdi pumps but no Td5's so just waiting on a return call from a breaker now or it's order a new one, just for a bit of threaded joint!
Damn the steering is heavy  |

There are also two different sized adaptors... one for discovery and one for defender.

Cheers Mr Baldylocks, I'm just hanging on at the minute, a breaker local to me is swamped with people at the minute but he is sure he's got a rough pump in his yard and will give me a ring this evening, failing that I might be off into town with the spanners in the dead of night

Just been looking on a few websites, the Russian LR Parts site and the likes of Rimmers that give part numbers and as been mentioned earlier they are different
 The Defender no. is QVB 101350 and the Discovery one is QVB 101240
I bet that the difference will be the the size of the fitting on the pressure outlet, the bit that's snapped on mine! Does anybody know for certain? |

i had my sons 300 tdi with broken pump last week ,took a chance on ebay and won a td5 defender one and hey presto perfect fit ,so the tdi should fit a td5 ,i pressume

A Tdi pump fitting a Td5? they're totally different, sorry. The Td5 pump has a keyway on the back of it to run the water pump.

Hiya JWL try your local Hydraulic hose specialist they may have a fitting that will do Pirtek is a national hose specialist not the cheapest but they may have the part that you need take the fitting to show them.

Just come back from a trawl round town, did the hydraulic places yesterday afternoon but no joy. All the local breakers are out of Defender pumps, my friendly motor factors have just had a rummage about in a whole bunch of pumps for return, none with matching threads plus to cap it all their supplier is all out of pumps as well. On a long shot a local reconditioning company is looking through their "scrap bin", a long shot but they might come up with something.
Got to bite the bullet and get a new one complete, bit of a bummer for an odd bit but only having the one motor it's the perrenial nightmare which is just knackering the existing pump running it dry
The delivery is going to be fun as I'm supposed to be in a field in Wales camping on Friday! That'll make the courier sweat  |

Couldn't you get an engineering workshop to make one? Should only take 30 minutes tops on a lathe?

I've been quoted at least £45 but, they're busy on a back order at the moment! Polite way of saying they didn't really want to do it especially as a one off, fair enough I'd probably say the same thing to some complete stranger off the street when I'm allready busy. Might be a bit of an opening somewhere for someone to make a few to open up the possibilities of a wider choice of pumps especially when travelling in foreign parts but to be honest, how many times do you actually have a problem with the pump? This is the first one I've had a problem with though a lot of my motors never knew that there was such a thing as power steering
