Went around Ireland several years ago. Six weeks without rain! Locals to friendly, won't leave you alone = interfering. Felt a bit vulnerable sometimes. Stopped drinking in pubs that have IRA photos around the walls. Once was told to make ourselves scarce as a funeral was passing after the burial of one senior member and after the firing over the grave, and the drinking, it may not be a good idea to have a English number plate alone, down a lane.
One tip; if asked by a barman if "you're ok then", don't say yes or they will walk away and not serve you! Having said all that, the views are fabulous, although the roads are all like green lanes. Perhaps not as bumpy. Merlin |

went into a pub in Ireland many moons (10 years ago) down in Co Kerry. Walked in, grabbed pint, sat down. Saw the newspapers on the walls about Bloody Sunday and the heros. Realised I'd made a mistake, especially being in her majestys employ at the time.
Drank pint, returned glass to the bar. Went about my business no harm done. The world is not out to get you the Irish people are brilliant, I love going to Ireland. Best bet is don't act like a tart. I was in said pub with a mate who as we left nudged me and said "wouldn't it have been funny if I'd have told them you're in the British Army". That is an example of how to act like a tart. Now if he had I'd fully expected to have got a kicking. The same as if I walked into a boozer in Newcastle and told them the toon army was . |
