Misfire, running rough - SOLVED!!!

Encountered a new one today.

Truck drove fine yesterday, parked it for 5 minutes, got in, started it up and instantly it's misfitring, very noticeable at idle, and under load. Overall it feels like 1 cylinder is just not firing.

I had fuelled earlier in the day, but driven 50k before this started. If it was bad fuel, I would expect the miss to be far less consistent.

• Plugged it in, no codes.
• ECU ingress? Checked (replaced the harness 5000 km ago, cleaned out the harness and double checked the ECU, it's 100%
• MAF checked ad double checked, no issues
• No white smoke in the exhaust, or signs of anything in the sump but oil

Fuel pump has been "buzzing" somewhat on and off for a while, going to change the fuel filter, as it looks like it's never been changed an try that, if no luck, considering going after the fuel pump.

Curious, before going after the fuel pump. If it's pump related, and not getting enough fuel, would it feel specifically like 1 cylinder was having an issue, or would it feel overall rough and lack of power.

On my list to continue to look at:
• Crud made it through the filter, and is clogging an injector
• Injector seals

Thoughts???

I'd get that filter changed asap. Could be that simple. I change mine every time I put fresh oil in (5-6000 miles).

A TD5 misfire could be all sorts, especially with no fauly codes.

Wiring issues could be crank position sensor. This is quite volnurable (sp?) and when breaking down and cause the engine to run very lumpy.

Do you have Air Con? Have a look see around the compressor to as things tend to rub on the housing. Was reasonably common.

I know you did the loom, but worth checking them and cleaning all the plugs again.

How does it start? And what priming noises do you get?

Any low fuel pressure faults logged?

How's the FPR? Any signs of leakage out the back diaphragm?

How the injector balance levels on idle? And just above idle?

Are all the earths in good fettle?

Issue uncovered....

Did the filter, nothing...

Off with the rocker cover. Behold, broken injector spring and the top of the injector had snapped off.

Found the broken pieces right there....

Just changed the oil last week, but it will be a new round of oil and filters just on the off chance there is something else floating around in there. Going over the entire top surface of the head with a magnet to recover anything else that may be laying around.

Whenywas the last time the injectors were adjusted?

No idea. I just bought the truck in September. I don't think there is an adjustment for them..
