I wouldn't have thought so but could it have caused the ecu to loose memory ie at the least would it need to do injector learn process?

I can't see it as being in the car and fuel companies interests to do the testing. If it came out in favour of 2SO then those companies would be very red faced. It would be effectively saying their engines and fuels aren't good enough

Car manufacturers always advise the use of good quality fuels in their engines - I think that they are aware of the potential problems of using poor fuel no matter how good the quality of their engines and ancillaries! They always seem to warn against using bio-fuels in diesel engines too.

As for fuel companies, they seem to put a lot of time and effort (money!) into producing quality fuels and often promote these fuels as offering MPG and emissions improvements over other makers fuels. This is one of the ways in which they seek to increase their market share. I work on the assumption that if they believed that adding 1 part per 200 (or whatever) 2T oil to the diesel was going to give an improvement then they would be doing it. After all, they have the time, money and incentive to do that sort of research.

Now that doesn´t help too much in prooving that 2SO was the major agonist with changes in the vehicle´s behaviour.

Are there any possible side effect to 2SO, such as an impact on emissions or whatever - points that the "official ones" could not tolerate but do not matter for the user ?

Is this good oil? Have got it laying around so thought I'd give it a go.

As your Puma is a 2.4 you need JASO FB mineral 2 stroke. 1982 88" 2.25 diesel

I tought so, thx

When I have some, I'll do some measurements like: decibels at cold start and at temperature, before, after and after a while, all at about the same condition regarding temperature, location, etc...
Should be interesting.

Anyone seen a Mercedes diesel car, van or truck with a two stroke oil reservoir in the engine bay or a pre-mix ratio printed on the fuel filler flap?
No?
That'll be your test results then Wink

I have to agree, there are plenty of couriers running around in white Transits which by there very nature are very high mileage and generally abused vehicles! Do they bother with 2S, I think not.

I am sure there would be some mention of using 2S in your handbook if LR thought that you would damage your engine if you didn't.

I perasonally have a Focus TDCI with 196,000 miles on the clock which is used to commute between Plymouth and Faslane, yes all motorway running, but I have never used anything other than cheapest fuel availble at the time and she is still going strong. You only have one life, live it....forget the cost.

I cant see that if 2 stroke makes the diesel lubricate the pump and injectors better than diesel alone that can be a bad thing can it ?

For a manufacturer to fit a 2t tank it would have to be approved by the powers that be,so they would have to spend millions on research to prove it is viable/safe,to them it's not worth it and they are right, engines run well enough without 2t.
But that doesn't mean you don't get good results using it,I used it a lot on my motorbikes,I don't think it will do the engine any harm but I'm really not sure that it wont start to clog injectors with regular use which is the only thing that stops me using it on my Defender. Pov.spec,ftw. 2006, 110,TD5.

I am a non-believer but my logic says it's worth a try.
Don't expect to use it all the time as I fill up 2 times per week and can't be bothered, however if the difference is huge, I just might periodically.

We'll see.

Concerning those transits, here in belgium most sell them at around 90k kms, so not a reference to me.
Manufacturers don't build cars to last but just long enough until the guarantee expires. Cars are more and more becoming a consumable.

The series 111, 2.25 diesel failed the smoke test in a most spectacular fashion. Coupled to this was a marked downturn in the mpg stakes. Turned out to be the injectors. When they were removed and sent in for testing the word came back that instead of putting in a nice spray mist pattern in to the engine they were just lashing the fuel in. The cause I was told was too fold,a) lack of use (it did 1000 miles since last years test) and b) lack of lubrication in modern low sulphur diesel diesel fuels. New nozzles were fitted and injectors reset. Next up is the retest. Looks like it will be 2so in the series 111 on a regular basis now too. 1982 88" 2.25 diesel

Lro the last time I read was advocating the benefits of the erg system to the efficient engine running ! It is well known out here the reduction in sulphur has resulted in injection pump increased failure. However more modern engines may be like valve recession on pre unleaded cars had this engineered out. 50km,s later I still add 2st, why ? It makes the engine quieter and it does,nt hurt , it's just oil like diesel just a little bit more refined maybe. Very Happy
