Beadnell is a nice place to visit, we stayed there a few years ago in a very quirky B&B that if I remember correctly had castle type towers? Its just a nice quiet seaside location with a lovely beach.

Try the Caravan and Camping Club site at Bellingham. We stopped there a few weeks ago and Bellingham is a nice base for touring the area. The site is immaculate and the wardens very friendly and helpful and there are decent pubs for food, shops and suchlike a 15 minute stroll away. The Riverdale Hotel does excellent food too.
The Forest Drive is quite nice and if you turn left at the northern end you can nip up to Carter Bar and go and have your photo taken with the piper Dave Green Goddess - 1998 Defender 110 300tdi |

Just returned from Boerigg campsite near Bellingham. Very good facilities with a bunk house and cafe. Campsite offered a more wild camping feel than your usual cram as many tents in as possible site.

IF you're up that way you might also want to see if you can get across the firing range at Otterburn (as long as there are any tornadoes flying around dropping bombs )
It's tarmac but there's a number of mock runways and abandoned tanks, just don't pick anything up!! You can get in via Alwinton and follow the road to hook up with A68. good info here: http://www.northumberlandnationalpark.org....ainingarea |

Or do what the wife's uncle did...............Take his Range Rover onto the range by accident, he didn't understand that the gate across the road was to keep him out. Good job it was a bright colour and he kept moving, he got buzzed a few times and a good from the range master. Don't make old people mad. We don't like being old in the first place, so it doesn't take much to us off. Richard |

Thanks for the suggestions.
In the end we camped at River Breamish Click image to enlarge A nice site with good facilities and plenty within walking distance Early morning walk around the lake Click image to enlarge Later drive off to Kielder to walk around the castle and forest drive Click image to enlarge Click image to enlarge Some great views Click image to enlarge Also drove from the suggestion over to Otterburn firing range and spent an hour or so working through some roads and some rough tracks. Next day we went off to do a little walking which included Ingram Valley waterfall Click image to enlarge Again, the landscape was great Click image to enlarge Last day, packed up camp and headed over to Holy Island, a walk around Berwick upon Tweed before setting off for home Click image to enlarge Click image to enlarge Lovely couple of days away and for the most part, great weather. Very cold in the evenings though. Plenty more photos if anyone wants to see but sadly I only have the basic editing software and a poorly calibrated screen now so apologies if colours are off. Admin note: this post has had its images recovered from a money grabbing photo hosting site and reinstated |

Our set-up couldn't be more like yours if we tried! We too have a black 110 Utility Wagon, Oztent and an Ozpig! Is yours an RV4? Looks like it. What do you burn in the Ozpig? We have hellish trouble keeping ours alight and preventing it smoking. 2012 Defender Utility Wagon

Yes an rv4.
With the ozpig use a mixture of wood and charcoal. Takes a while to get up to temperature but with the charcoal will last for a good hour or so before putting on a few coals to top up. It's great for a long slow cook, where has would be useless but find it struggles to much else. We don't mind that though as we throw food in the pot and simply leave until done. |
