help !!
guys. have a problem ! coming back through Gibraltar immigration, the car was stationary, got waved on by the copper, put her into gear and then the clutch pedal just fell to the floor, there was a bit of a crunch... then couldnt get a gear, lifted pedal but any pressure just pushed it back to the floor as if the spring wasnt attached.

Then couldnt get a gear. Took a look below and a nice pool of fluid, on further inspection there appears to be a 5mm hole in the gearbox..

Can anyone help with what to do next. THe dealer i purchased from gave me a years graentee on gearbox, but i have a feeling he will says its wear and tear or a stone or something. I seriously dount anything external made the hole.

Please take a look and let me know your thoughts and how to best handle the dealer. Sad

Going to stick my neck out but I think that hole exists on the MT82 as normal.

Best guess is the clutch master (or slave, not sure which way round it is Embarassed ) cylinder has gone (it is inside the casing), leaked and the oil is coming from the drain hole ?

Good luck.

The hole is supposed to be there. The lack of pedal and fluid leaking out suggests a failure of the hydraulics - either a burst pipe or possibly the slave cylinder, which I believe is inside the bellhousing. Darren

Last year I was quoted:
TR51 wrote:
Master Cylinder:
£223.80 + VAT is what I was quoted by a main dealer last week
[£72.10 - master cylinder].
[£8.50 - fluid and disposal]
[143.20 - Labour]

And as you'd probably want to do the slave at the same time...
Slave Cylinder:
£103.01 + VAT
[£58.26 - slave cylinder]
[£44.75 - Labour]

@ Roger Young LR (Devon)
Hope this helps + you get it sorted without fuss Thumbs Up

You can start the engine "in gear" and get going... with some practice you'll be able to change gear without the clutch, by getting the (engine) revs to match the forward speed.

Try giving Tuggy (tuggys4x4) a shout, he's in La Linea, if you don't want to get to your dealers.

Although there is (or was) a Rover dealer in Gib. surely they could sort it?

Might as well. there could be some contamination of the fluid back up into the master (although the oil doesn't "move" that much when you press the pedal)

But is the slave gave out, then chances are (due to age) the master might be on its last legs too.

its a 2008 motor with 90000km on the clock, would that be expected?

I was running it for about 30 minutes offroad in first with no clutch, using anti-stall before it went, maybe connected? would that stress it? my 4 year old son was sat on my lap steering Smile

Guys, the mechanic thinks i he needs to remove the entire gearbox to change the slave on a puma, is that right? he says its a days and half work... is that correct?

It is a gearbox out job I believe.

Not sure of the length of time needed though.
