Bike-heads, please help
![]() Just had the front forks off my restoration project (1940s) tandem nicked by some thieving barrstards from our works garage ![]() ![]() ![]() They are totally non-standard (!) so I need to look at headset options for other similar forks (at least for my sanity). If the headtube has an internal diameter of around 32mm (roughly 1 1/4") what size headset do I need? I thought it would be simple but it looks as though the headset "size" (on the box) is not the same thing as the headtube diameter - this really confused me: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Head_tube They look a bit like motorcycle forks (same company made mopeds) - could they be 1"? Any help much appreciated. Cheers Matt Admin note: this post has had its images recovered from a money grabbing photo hosting site and reinstated ![]() But shout it at them in German because life is also terrifying and confusing... |

Thanks SC. Wealth of information in there
![]() Trouble now is that Mr Brown's info seems to conflict with Wikipedia ![]() I'm going into the city (Bayern are playing tonight so it will be horribly full of drunk fans) to try and find a bike shop that can help, i.e. let me open all their boxes... Tell someone you love them today because life is short. But shout it at them in German because life is also terrifying and confusing... |

Fantastic! Those sizes seem to make sense - that's a nice fitting program... although I was a bit disappointed the database didn't go back to 1943

steel frames pre early 1990s were prodominantly "1 inch" standard and looking at your picture your frame tubing does 'look' 1" diameter but i cannot see your headtube to see if that has been oversized to accommodate the additional stresses of the ace suspension fork.
