Viair 400p issue
Hi,

Haven't used it for a while, and though whilst it appears got blow air, it doesn't seem to amount to any pressure to fill the tyre.

Any thought?

with thanks,

Rob

Have you sprayed the hose and all connections with soapy water to check for leaks first.

Next, if you are able to remove the air inlet cover to check and remove any dust that may have built up.

From there it must be something internal from the piston to the outside air coupling.

I had a trusty Truckair for years, when that failed it was the plastic connector to the side mounted air gauge. I removed the gauged and install a bolt to the fitting and it carried on until I upgraded to a twin motor T Max for speed.

Unfortunately, no mater what the name, most things are Chinese made and internals can be cheap irrespective of the price tag.

Try the obvious first, then be prepared to treat it like a project, great if you can fix it, get another if you can’t.

For my wife’s Velar we have a Michelin suv/4x4 twin motor compressor from Halfords that connects to the normal 12v socket in the car whereas as mine connectes via an Anderson plug directly to the battery.

It’s only £75, it’s very fast and will stop automatically at the preset pressure you need.

Good luck.

The Viair 400P is a single cylinder 12v pump and is almost identical to those sold by T-Max and other companies.

As above check the hoses first and the rubber seal in the tyre valve end. I had a similar problem with my T-Max air pump and it ended up being bad electrics. I replaced the cable and upgraded from the useless cigarette connector to Andersson Powerpole connectors. These are superb. I also took the time to take the pump side apart, cleaned it and re-greased with CV grease and now the pump is even better than it was new. I use it all the time Thumbs Up

As with winches these pumps do work better with light servicing.

Oh, if the Viair is anything like the T-max then the tyre valve clip is a screw-on thing that is useless. Definitely worth upgrading to one of these https://www.amazon.co.uk/Laser-5442-Clip-V...&psc=1

EDIT. Here are some photos of the T-Max pump and PowerPole connectors I fitted to the pump.

Thanks for the replies.
I’ll take it apart over the weekend and check the points you both raise.
If no good will have to invest in a replacement!

Thanks again

It could be that a rubber seal or gasket has perished. Simple as that. Viair are a big enough company they should offer parts for your pump.

I found the manuals online

https://www.manualslib.com/manual/2356159/...e=7#manual

It does talk about removing the filter and wiping any dust away from the fins and surrounding area.

Apart from cleaning the filter it also says that it should be replaced regularly.

Maybe it can be washed and dried.

Worth adding to your check list. Anything else it says to return to an agent.

Let us all know how you get on.

Thumbs Up
