Recommendations for LED rear work lamp for camping etc...
I had the rear Land Rover work lamp on my 90 and found it be pretty rubbish. The new LED lights seem far better but more expensive. Any recommendations for a LED strip unit to fit above the rear door? I've looked at the Lasers that Brendan is selling but I image they're designed for throwing a narrower light beam further than I need.

Thanks.

Each to their own but for good quality and a good product this would be my 'weapon of choice.' Not a srtip but excellent value for money with great reviews. Thumbs Up

LED lights come with a wide variety of quality, prices and light output.

I agree with K9F about sticking to good quality!

The Lazer Lamp ST4 is a cracking unit gives out about 3,500 raw lumens 88% efficient and cost £240

The Rigid Industry Light I have not used but they have a good reputation. The one Mal links to as 2600 lumen output (raw or effective) and cost £255

However personally I would NOT recommend either unit as a work lamp on the back of a Defender!

WHY?

Work lights are mounted at about 1.7-1.9 m high which is just above eye level. Look at one of those lights and you will be 'blinded'. Great if you could get them 4-5m+ above ground level but not at eye level.

Other choices? Consider the Vision X light. Light output at 900 lumens, cost £90 with a 45 degree light pattern and draws less then 1 amp.

So consider carefully how you want to use the work lights. Need more light output/area covered? Use two one on either side and angled as required.

I personally would avoid the cheaper ones.

I can see where you're coming from (but not if I'd looked directly into the light) but others do recommend them for that very purpose.....price is also for a pair not a single unit. Thumbs Up

From the reviews....

Very quick delivery, the lights are great !
I have mounted them on CB aerial gutter mounts on the back of my land rover as worklights. They are awesome....

Not as a worklight but for front use....

I was looking for a light that gave me better visibility at a closer range than the halogen spots and headlights currently on my Defender....The light is self is clean, crisp and very well focused. I am very impressed by these lights and would recommend them to anyone. If you go through life with your head in the sand....all people will see is an ar5e!!

As Brendan says the D2 Duallys will blind you - but you do get a pair for the £255 so would be very bright (5200 lumens).
The original Duallys at £150 a pair would be less bright but possibly still too bright unless you need serious light.(I have both on the front of my 90)

As a back light I have a round LED which gives a good light for general work / camping / reversing but will not blind you - also cheaper than the above
Sold by Devon for £65

The Rigid Industries SR-Series 50" LED lightbar kicks out 16,000 raw lumens and will also blind you. It also should maybe state on the instructions "Induce vomiting if swallowed as it may choke you!' or 'Seek medical advice if you accidently sit on it and find yourself impaled upon it up your crimper'!

Sense and sensibility must prevail here, or buy a few candles and make sure you don't burn yourself when lighting them!

Odin asked for recommendations on rear work lights.

People have vastly different requirements for rear work lights.

Are they for use as just extra reversing lights, or a camping light or to light up the bottom of a work trench etc?

Bottom of a work trench then max light output might be a major consideration

Camping light then less light output required but a lower current draw is of importance.

One of the other reason for suggesting a Vision X light is that it is a 10 watt light drawing less then 1 amp whereas the Rigid Industry light draws about 2.5 amps/unit or 5 amps for the pair

For a camping light current draw is a major consideration alongside light output.

I have 4 of the small Vision X on my Transporter for camp lights and must say they are great Thumbs Up they only draw 0.6 amps. I paid €40 each as I'm friends with the main European importer for them Whistle

Not a strip but I have an LED which Brendan supplied at the Trek Overland gathering which is great for camping (as long as you don't want to light up the whole campsite). Can't remember any details apart from they came in a number of versions from spot to flood - mine's a flood.

That's reminded me - must paint the garage door! Very Happy

I went to Zen Overland 2 weeks ago. After a recommendation on here about some quad bits and pieces. The shop is just a counter and his stock isn't the most extensive but he more than makes up for that with enthusiasm and offering to get whatever you want.
I purchased a helmet and will be going back for some other bits and pieces. A pr of D2's for definite.
Plus Gabriel the owner is an all round top bloke, took time out to have a chat with me about my needs and then offered to see what was available on the market. Had a mail 2 days later with all the info 110 D250 SE HT

How do you all mount your rear work lights, im assuming the only way is to do it as cobs has by drilling a hole above the gutter?
