The only CAN bus is between the engine ECU and the instrument pack, the lights are definitely not controlled by it!! 1988 90 Td5 NAS soft top

Even so is there an issue due to the way the vehicle checks the bulbs for failure which means they wont work?

No bulb checks on the defender that I've seen on my 08 110. Except for those done by eye of course... 2023 110 P400e |

That's interesting, The guy in there was showing me all the wipac LED NAS style replacement lights and said they have had problems with them as I mentioned, I don't have one that age either but Just thought I'd ask the question, did a quick forum search. Again its not like its an issue I am posed with directly just thought I would ask the question. I will clarify next time I speak to them. |

Same for me, I have installed RDX led lights for my Defender and have had no issues on the Brake and parking lights. For the indicators, you will need to change the relay which is included in the package I purchased from BoltonBits. Xtech comes with LED's as standard, there is no issue with them The only problem i have ever come across was on an older vehicle were we fitted a set of led sidelights and the wires needed swapping over so red went to black and vise versa CSK Automotive

Would i be right in saying that the lights/wipers/central locking and stereo etc, are still wired just like they used to be back in the 80's. Because i haven't seen much difference. I have a c regi and its the exact same wiring at the back than my 08 puma Its just the engine that gets changed. William

Probably because the LED's are / were one way polarity and will not work reversed. An incandescent (filmament type) bulb will light up regardless of polarity whether correct or reversed. My interior LED's I'm putting in are like that. ⭐️⭐️God Bless the USA 🇬🇧🇺🇸 ⭐️⭐️ |

Correct about Xtech (and SVX, FIRE/ICE, etc.) but not the turn signals. On all those the turn signals ex factory remain incandescent 21W bulbs. Some (me ) have changed those to same looking LEDs which you can buy for instance from Mobilecentre. In the case where you make this change, you indeed have to change the turn signal relay by one from either Mobilecentre or by one from RDX BoltonBits. The latter as a matter of fact is a more sophisticated relay as it has the audible signal plus a few more advantages. In any way, no '06 onward Defenders should have any trouble running LED lamps. My SVX is a '09 model and I have LEDs virtually all over and they work a treat You never actually own a Defender. They use these... made by Le Perei, which believe is a UK manufacturer. The pic below shows them after I have changed the standard bulb powered turn signal by a Le Perei LED of the same series as the other LEDs Land Rover use on the SVX, ICE, Xtech, etc.
