His plan was to leave the family, take the tree home and then come back for them I think! He did get the obligatory comment from me though of "You should have bought a proper Land Rover mate, you can fit half the forest and all the family in one of these!" An engine to TDi for!

Blushes absolutely not necessary! We all enjoyed you posts enormously. As did everyone else I showed it to. But if ever the essence and appeal of a defender was captured in a few words and pictures, 9t you have done it. Thank you for sharing. Now we are back to the mundane..... I have fitted a buckle scavenged off an old fall arrest harness to my seatbelt to stop it falling all the way to the floor. It has only been like it for five years...and now I don't have to open the door to put my seatbelt on. Result. Cost nowt. Time taken 5 minutes to cut 2 slots in the buckle and slide on to the seat belt. Can't imagine why I put up with it for so long..... |

GUM97 - I trust he did come back and hopefully the Defender seed has been sown. '13 Defender 90 '10 Freelander '13 BMW R1200GS '62 Triang Tricycle Previously '04 R1150RT; '11 F650GS; '98 Defender 110; '03 Defender 90; '02 Freelander |

Bertie got a set of boost alloys fitted today.
And I tried to fit the xs seats but the rails seem not to fit, so After a cold hour I decided to fit the old one back in until the morning Tomorrow brings new bumper, hood sticks and hood or it could be ground hog day And I'll have to put it back as it was |

Did a course with Ed Cobley with LROAC/Protrax at Rockingham Castle - its also where the East of England Land Rover Experience is based.
My objective was to really understand what the Defender can do, and get some professional instruction in my own vehicle. Myself and my son did the course, and I can not speak highly enough of Ed/Vince and the team there. Whilst I am sure much of what we learnt will be "old hat" to many of you, I was knocked out by what we were tackling after a short time - the whole clutch release and braking technique to maintain control when descending and climbing (forwards and backwards) really helped me to grasp "how it all works". Traversing a 32 degree section was definitely the scariest bit of the day for me. I will definitely be back with them for more instruction and plan to join one of their 2 day trips in wales next year. |

We went and picked up a real tree this morning, normally I take the Defender and just lash it to the roof. But, as I'm midway through replacing the bent exhaust, I took the D4. I dropped all the seats and put a tarpaulin down and the whole tree (8-9ft) went inside just fine. Much easier than tying the tree on the roof of the Defender..! Cheers Simon |

You could probably get a 17ft tree in your 130 without a problem! An engine to TDi for!

It's when a driver reckons it's 'old hat' that we get stuck. Well done on getting to know about it all the right way. Learning at the hands of the experts really illustrates the breathtaking ability of these vehicles. When you're out in a real situation it's very reassuring to know what to do. A few months back I did a refresher course along with a group of other Landies; Discos, Evoques and Freelanders - my wife and I were the only Defender drivers there. After coaxing some of the Freelanders and Evoques over a tricky rock section we took the Defender through in a fraction of the time it took the others because of the great clearance, articulation and low down grunt. All the instructor said was, "And that, ladies and gentlemen, is why people love Defenders." All credit to the car in this instance, not the driver.
